Among the remains discovered in Fingus, Maine, was a skull belonging to Cynthia Paggett, a woman Ed had witnessed being murdered outside his apartment. Afterward, Ed began to read obsessively and form connections with everyone he came across.

Although Ed had linked together forty-three murders over fifteen years, Frank knew he would be killed by The Millennium Group if he ever came forward with the information.
