Episode Summary
When murder and mayhem become frequent at the estate of a Wisconsin politician, Frank Black snatches the case from Emma Hollis in order to pursue the woman he knows to be committing the crimes: his demonic nemesis, Lucy Butler. Now posing as a nanny, what are Lucy's plans for the politician's daughter? Frank's investigation becomes personal and dangerous when he learns, once and for all, what Lucy's plans are for his life.

Another excellent episode to to continue a run of fine Season 3 entries. The return of Lucy Butler is always going to be a highlight, and back in the hands of Carter she gets to realise her full potential. Unlike “A Room With No View”, the terrifically dark chemistry between Lance Henriksen and Sarah-Jane Redmond is not allowed to go to waste, and the respective characters of Frank and Lucy get to renew their rivalry in style.
The episode is filled with terrific imagery, from the snake devouring Devina in the teaser, to the Succubus-like visitation at the motel and the fearsome sight of Lucy and the Long-Haired Man in the pouring rain. The writing, the cinematography, Mark Snow's music... it all comes together to play out like a mini horror movie, more of a true chiller that the series would normally go for, and it's all the better for it. The dialogue also sparkles, not least of which for Lucy, but also for the lawyer character, Selwyn Wassenaar, who is offensive and detestable in equal measure.
Keeping track of the more complicated depths of Lucy's agenda involving her dead child and possession of Devina can risk becoming a little confusing, but besides that the episode flows along at a fine pace and is packed with ample scenes of delicious horror. One of the stand-out entries of the season, and indeed the series as a whole.
