The third season premiere brought with it an updated and altered variant of the show's opening credits sequence. The show's tagline was changed from "this is who we are, the time is near" to "wait, worry, the time is near," a number of new images were added to the sequence, and Klea Scott's name and face took the place of Megan Gallagher's. Millennium's opening titles changed with every new season.

Fears about the Y2K bug seem quaint now, but at the time this was broadcast - 14 months before 1/1/00 - it was still an exotic concept to most people. The challenge was how to turn an abstract fear of a computer glitch into something scary and dramatic for Frank and Emma to investigate.

The quote that begins the episode ("Never believe anything you see on Halloween." -- Reverend M. Goodman, October 31, 1985) was created as a deliberate nod to Mr. Morry Goodman. Michael R. Perry, the episode's writer, has noted that Goodman was one of the censors working on the show's third season and that he often gave the series great leeway when it came to presenting the necessary gore, violence, and sexuality.

Millennium Trivia:

Marking the final appearance for two of Millennium's main characters, this episode is one that also gives clarification on the somewhat confusing events at the conclusion of Season 2's The Time Is Now.

Firstly Frank (Lance Henriksen) gets to finally grieve and let out his bottled-up frustration and crippling sense of loss for the death of his beloved wife, Catherine Black (Megan Gallagher). Megan returned to Millennium for one last to time to undertaking the role of Catherine in scenes so sad and emotional that it is impossible to watch without tearful eyes.

Secondly, actor Stephen James Lang made his final appearance as the much appreciated Det. Bob Giebelhouse. Appearing in 16 episodes throughout all three Seasons of Millennium, Det. Bob Giebelhouse was vastly appreciated by Millennium's fans for his portrayal as the Seattle-based, seasoned and experienced Cop and friend to criminal profiler Frank Black.

Giebelhouse also provides in this episode, much needed and often missed on-screen clarification and explanation on the events following the apocalyptic release of Marburg Virus at the end of Season Two, when he refers to how the media exaggerated the release of the virus and the death toll.

This episode also marked the first of FBI Technical Analyst Doug Scaife's four appearances, portrayed by actor Trevor White. White had previously undertaken the role of Casper in Midnight of the Century.

This episode also marks the final in-episode appearance of the Yellow House. When Frank drives to the house, he has a vision of Catherine standing on the porch, then he realises it is the new home owner, a man listed only as Home Owner in the closing credits, yet described in the official synopsis for this episode as Jeff King, a successful contractor.

Writer Frank Spotnitz comments on Antipas:

As played by Sarah-Jane Redmond, Lucy Butler was my favorite guest character on "Millennium." She first appeared in Chris' season one episode "Lamentation," which was - to my mind - the second best episode of the series after the pilot, which I still think is one of the best hours of TV I've ever seen. She was evil, creepy, smart - and had a terrific chemistry with Lance, which we decided to push to the max this time around.

This episode probably belonged more squarely to the horror genre than anything else we did on the series. It didn't really fall into the continuity of the season, particularly, but I thought it was a fun, scary ride nonetheless. I also loved the character of Selwyn Wassenaar, whose dialogue - as written by Chris - was deliciously evil and offensive.

Writer Frank Spotnitz comments on Seven and One:

Talk about a tortured development process. The original version of this episode, believe it or not, was going to feature flashbacks to the Middle Ages. Instead, the flashbacks ended up being of Frank's youth, establishing his fear of drowning. A bittersweet episode, because it turned out to be my last "Millennium" (until Lance reprised his role for the last time in season seven of "The X-Files").

Goodbye to all that featured two examples of Ten Thirteen (1013) inside jokes:

In the last episode of Millennium, Emma is snooping on Douglas Scaife's computer. She clicks on the browse bar of the Bureau Records Search Engine, and just for a brief moment you can see the drop-down search history with names that have been written there before:

  • Cathy Gilroy (aka Kathy Gilroy-Sereda) was a production manager in all the episodes of season 1 except the Pilot, associate producer/production manager throughout Season 2 and co-producer/production manager throughout Season 3.
  • Mark Lane was a Set Decorator throughout seasons 2 and 3.

In addition to Cathy Gilroy and Mark Lane, on Douglas's computer there are at least two other names that seem to be significant when it comes to 1013 references: Scott Steyns and Ross Framo. They were uncredited, but according to IMDb they worked on Millennium: Framo was a Computer Playback Operator and Steyns was a Playback Coordinator. Ross Framo also appeared in The Wild and the Innocent, in Maddie Haskel's highschool year book.

Aliases of Lucas Barr, shown on Peter Watts' computer:

  • Daniel Baron
  • Chuck Holland
  • Robert Moresco
  • Teddy Mann
  • George Johnson

Ted Mann and Robert Moresco both worked on Season 1 as producers and helped write such episodes as 'The Judge', 'Loin Like a Hunting Flame', 'Broken World', and 'Paper Dove'. (Credit: betweenthelines of TIWWA). Chuck Holland - Charles (D.) Holland (Story editor for nine Season 1 episodes and writer of Wide Open). It is very likely that Daniel Baron and George Johnson are also uncredited but as yet unconfirmed affiliates of the Ten Thirteen crew.
