Episode Summary

Catherine Black is called to a Seattle area high school to help understand why a local girl is claiming to have magnificent religious visions of Mary Magdalene. When she arrives, however, she finds her cool psychological findings to be in direct conflict with those thought patterns of another investigator: Lara Means, representing the Millennium Group. The struggle for answers may bring Catherine to a deeper understanding of her husband's work and driving essence.

Dancing Barefoot

Because of the amount that pop music was used in the second season, it seems that one of the scenes we should honour should be the best use of pop music on the show. This is something that other shows do, but never as well as Millennium. This scene is lyrically beautiful, with lush, interesting images, a high-octane pace to match the song's beat, and, all in all, tells a story in and of itself, just like the song. Not too much is given away about the actual plot of the episode. We know how what happens happens, but we never see what happens, exactly. However, it must be said that much of the scene's impact is due to the song. Patti Smith's Dancing Barefoot is a truly great song, and her unique vocal style lends itself rather nicely to the song. This scene is more powerful than the other instance where one of Smith's songs is used, in The Time is Now, simply because it packs more of a wallop. The sequence in The Time is Now starts out strong, but is diluted by its length. This is short and sweet, pushing everything into just over three minutes. A real masterpiece in this category.
