Fred Rogers. Some of you may have never heard of him, some of you grew up with watching his shows, as they are the longest running TV show in the world, and still running in syndication, its possible they will go on forever.I had the chance to meet Fred Rogers in college, He was speaking on childhood education, which was my major at the time. My brothers boss had the chance to be on Mr Rogers Neighborhood many years ago as an antique dealer/ restore, and they had a chair that they were putting the pieces into the back of it and he had informed Mr Rogers that it could take a while to get them in place, and Mr Rogers let him know it was ok. and it was like Zip! they went in on the first take.It was with great sadness that we learned of his death. But still, what he does, what he taught goes on.My Friend Peter is having a very hard time with his cancer treatments. While he has a colostomy, the pills that they are giving him are making the runs happen, which happen at all hours, with no warning, and its made him feel helpless. useless, hopeless.Sometimes words arn't enough. Sometimes, just saying I am here for you- seems old. I thought back, to a particular song that I had heard as a child, and I did a web search, and I found it, on the mister rogers neighborhood site, and did a copy and paste of it in a letter to my friend. I don't know what my world would be like with out my friends. The waiting, the not knowing, is very hard, watching them struggle through recovery is horrible. and I know I could not do the cancer dance again. It has nothing to do with will power, its, just- the pain. mind numbing. horrid pain. When I encouraged Peter to go for it, I knew what he was facing, I knew the horrors that go with the chemo, and the radiation, and while he has always been a gentle soul, Perhaps it was my selfishness that I didn't want him to give up on himself, that made me encourage him to stick with it.He has many more weeks of this. I don't know if he will make it. I can only send him my love, and the words of a man who accepted everyone as they are, for Fred Rogers was by far the wisest man on the face of the earth.and pray,Kath
