Alright let's say you joined the Millennium Group. It's politics time. Do you side with the Roosters or the Owls?

I'm definitely a Rooster. I'm amazed every day that we're all still here! (At least I guess we're here and not all having a "Jacob's Ladder"-type experience.)

Me I'm an Owl, little me.

I will actually have to watch Owls and Roosters and get back to you on that. Although I am a huge fan of S2, Owls and Roosters have never been among my favorites, and therefore I have rarely watched them, so I am overdue to give them another chance. I do seem to recall those both being Lara Means episodes, so that's added incentive.

Instant recap:

Owls believe in a secular Millennium, with an end of the world brought in by mundane causes (or astronomical disasters).

Roosters believe the soon-to-come end of the world will remind very close of the biblical Armageddon and Revelations.

The difference is materialism versus faith on one level, with an additional level being that the Roosters see the Armageddon as something potentially leading to a better state of things pretty soon while the Owls are focused on planning for survival. Hence the Owl motto about the Roosters singing for the dawn while the night is still dark.

Thank you for the recap. I am going to have to declare myself as an Owl. This topic has solved a more immediate problem than the coming apocalypse, and that is what I am going to watch on TV tonight. Given my very long stretch in between viewings of Owls and Roosters, I think I am going to watch them back to back tonight.

Those two are among my favourite episodes. I remember when I first watched them in the late 90's I was simply delighted by the way they were expanding the mythology. An excellent thing about the two groups is that either of them can be considered the good or the bad guy, and it just depends on your worldview... amazing writing.

(go Owls)

Speaking of good guys and bad guys, sense you are praising both season two AND Morgan & Wong, you are a good guy in my book. I am off to watch them right now. For some reason my mood just seems perfect for them. It's been a while sense I have seen them, maybe even up to two years, during my first go around when I got my S2 DVDs, so they will feel fresh.

Why thank you, you're most kind. I love Morgan and Wong and that... touch they have. Very visionary, in a very self-consistent way. That's pretty rare. I think it's a real pity so many of their works got axed or never saw the light. Shall we mention The Others? Oh how I loved that show. The Wonder Cabinet is another one I would have loved to see.

Yes, I loved "The Others" and was devastated when it was canceled after only one season. At the time, I had absolutely no idea who Morgan and Wong were, and no idea "The Others" was their baby. It wasn't until I started to come to TIWWA that I started to learn about such things. I rarely pay much attention to the credits, so I didn't even know Morgan and Wong from the X-files series until after it ended. I hate to open this can of worms again, but I have heard accusations of M & Ws work in season two as being lazy and unimaginative, and I can't comprehend that. If anything, episodes like Owls, Roosters, The Forth Horseman and The Time Is Now are complicated and intricate to the point of being almost hard to take it all in the first time around. I think that, when you mention how much you enjoyed the expansion of the mythology of season two, this is what Morgan and Wong had in mind, and why they went in that direction. Little did they know that, if I had to guess, a slight majority of the shows fans were not pleased with the direction. Watching "Owls" again has given me a new appreciation for the episode, and while it still isn't up there at the very top, it IS better than I remembered and riviting. OK, off to watch "Roosters". By the way, like I have said before, this whole argument among TIWWA members regarding S2 and M & W is kind of neat, and reminescant of the Owl and Rooster division within the Millennium group.
