Guest Justa Fan
Did a quick cruise around Wal Mart today and stopped in the Electronics Dept. In the bargain bin was the DVD "Lost Voyage." Everything in the bin was $5.88 and lower. This movie was just released on DVD and played on the Sci-Fi channel a couple of months ago. Cool Beans! Pick it up while they're still in the bin! voidprime
Hmmm. I don't go to Walmart that often. I want to pick up the The Towers Extended Edition DVD that is on sale at Shopko for $22.99. That's my top priority for DVD spending. Be Seeing You, David Blackwell "Don't tug on that, you never know what it might be attached to. "- Buckaroo Banzai "There are no answers- only choices." Guest Justa Fan
Sure...one of my favorite places to visit. In the Fall, we drive through New England and raid Antique Shops for New England booty. Vermont is one of my favs. I stock up on Maple syrup for my scrapple sandwiches (please...don't make that face... it's considered "eatin' high on the hog" in my neck of Maryland.) I'd have to say Vermont is #2 on my fav list. Number one on my list is Salem, Mass. Salem is a whole lotta fun in October!!

I'm hoping that next school year, our choir tour will be to Maine (our conductor's from there and loves to take the kids up there, because most of them have never been out of the south, south including Ohio). I have this awesome ring that I bought summer 2001 on a massive camping trip to New England (my senior trip) when we were in Putney, Vermont. A wonderful little old-fashioned yet hippie town, with a grocery store filled with things like vegan cookies and soy products. And everyone drives Saabs. ::sigh:: I feel so pent up lately; I haven't been outside of this town (meaning, within this less than 2-mile radius) since August, save going to Richmond (about 10 miles away) to the Indian restaurant twice. I wish I was in Vermont right now, eating some maple sugar candy and sitting on some big porch someplace. Mmm.

I wish I was in Vermont right now, eating some maple sugar candy and sitting on some big porch someplace. Mmm. .......we don't regret moving to the north country of vermont one bit from our old home in massachusetts. northern vermont, especialy the region we live in that is affectionately known as "THE NORTHEAST KINGDOM" is the most beautifull and diverse country i've seen in new england, and i'm a born/bred new englander! -(besides the beauty of our region we are only 45-min. to the white mountains,10-min. to Quebec and 2-hrs. from the great city of Montreal.) ...depending on what part of Maine you may go to,we can get to parts of maine in a little over 2-hrs. we'd love to see you if your tour goes to central/northern maine!! ...it TRULY is a different way of life upstate here. PEOPLE ACTUALLY TALK WITH YOU,WATCH OUT FOR YOU,HELP YOU IF YOU NEED IT,etc. ...the pace of life is also much more relaxed and casual. plus all the great values-(due to the exchange rate)-and MORE gorgeous country to be had right over the border in QUEBEC. ...if you ever want to visit a part of new england that is unspoiled and still pretty much unchanged, besides the obvious things of course, since the early 1900's you'll always have a place to stay if you need one.-(our new home addition is basicaly a self-contained one bedroom apartment only connected to the main house by a small hallway.) ...anyway,from denise and I,it's a standing offer should you ever want to experience "the kingdom". Guest se7en
OK, now you're talkin'. Laura you bring the Smithfield Ham and I'll bring the scrapple. Se7en, you supply the Maple syrup. Yep..Cool Beans! ..lol..a smithfield ham!!.. ...well,never had one but they sound good............and EXPENSIVE!-(this year we are going to try a localy,err...there's no better way to say this, slaughtered pig from one of the local farms/butchers around here. we hear that the locally cut hams are absolutely delectible up here.-(meaning that all you are supposed to need to eat one is a fork....and nothing else.Hmm-Hmm baby!) ...wacky nothern folk that we are we some places that even have maple-"creamies" year-round.-(it took me over a year to stop saying "soft-serve" and start calling them "creamies"! imagine enjoying a nice smooth creamie on a -20(F) january day!) ...one dish you probably would not like to partake of is peculiar to the border towns, like us,and comes from our Quebecois friends: it's fried cheese curds covered with heaps of lumpy GRAVY!! i think they call it "Frites'"??-(don't have the nerve,or the artery-space to try that one yet!). ..another one, which i LOVE,is VERY-DEEP fried french fries smothered, again, with nice lumpy gravy! that stuff is so gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood!! ...as i get to know the local history of the border towns, the northeast kingdom in general and the eastern townships of Quebec i realize that where we are there really isn't a border at all in terms of people/customs/food/trade and nationalities. you have a vast majority of irish and french catholics in the vermont border towns, with many towns having FRENCH sounding names, and then you have a vast majority of french and irish catholics in the eastern border towns of Quebec, otherwise known as "THE TOWNSHIPS",with many towns having decidedly IRISH sounding names. ...so you have this centuries old blend of nationalities on both sides of the so-called border to the point where many stores and restaraunts on "our" side will also take canadian money just like the Quebec stores will take U.S. money. ...we even share many of the same legends and myths such as "MEMPRE"-(a sort of "loch ness-type sea serpent/dragon)-which is rumored to be in the giant glacier lake called lake/lac-Memphremegog,in which the southernmost portion lies in the town of "Newport",VT.-(about 3-seconds from Coventry)-and ends to the north in the quebec town of "Magog". it is, i think the only international lake in the northeast and is over 25-miles long and,in places, hundreds of feet deep with an extensive uderwater cave system. .....sorry for carrying on a bit,i get a bit carried away about my my new adopted "homeland",if you will. if either yourself or Erin or Laura are interested in seeing some shots i took of this region over this past summer/fall just email me and i'll post some pictures to my "photo-website" at MSN. -(so no one has to download pictures via a slow connection i just post them to this webspace and then email people the link to take them there. " ...i'll take 'history and culture that hardly anyone knows about' for $500." ~PEACE-ALL, se7en
Guest Justa Fan
French fries and gravy....that's a classic! I'll pass on the cheese curds...just the gravy please. I remember on one of my first trips to New England (many years ago...like 1972 or so) I stopped in a local joint and ordered a cold cut sub. They looked at me like I was from out of town (and I was)...."Oh, Son, what you want is a Grinder!" For some strange reason, I'll always remember that!
