Guest LauraKrycek
I just found something about some new show called "Tru Calling", starring "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" veteran Eliza Dushku. Here's a plot summary: Tru Davies, a medical grad student whose grant is suddenly pulled out from under her, takes a job at a local morgue. There, she discovers that she has the power to "re-live" the previous day over again to help the people who wrongly end up dead. She uses this gift not only to save lives, but to help her trouble-plagued family - a drug addicted sister and a gambling brother. Sounds a little like a mix between Frank and the character of Gary Hobbes ::sigh, dreamboat:: from the show "Early Edition" that used to come on CBS. Has anyone seen this show? It seems somewhat interesting. "Tru Calling" Fansite
voidprime
I have seen the show (watched every episode except last week's which is on tape waiting to be watched as long as I remember which tape it's on). I have a link on the front page of my site to one of the Tru Calling fan sites. I also have a Tru Calling pilot review on the site too. So far, the show rests on Eliza Dushku's shoulders. the plots aren't that special even though the show is watchable. I just wish they had great plots instead of OK (so-so) ones. Guest LauraKrycek
That's too bad; it sounded somewhat promising. I hate that so many people try to capture that type of storytelling in shows, and so many fail time and again. Some of them *almost* get there... "Miracles" was succeeding. MM succeeded. XF did quite often. But sometimes, I think people try too hard and they miss it. Reminds me of a book I read years ago... "Nora: Maybe a Ghost Story". It dealt a tiny bit with the ghost of the title character's mother, but it mainly focused on her dealing with her life, now that she was missing that element and trying to get over it. Not heavy-handed, but just there. Sometimes, people just try too hard.
voidprime
well, in one of the episodes of Tru Calling, they did drop a hint that Tru's mom (who died when Tru was 12) had the same ability to go back in time 24 hours to stop an unnatural death just like Tru does. Raven Wolf
I haven't been watching as much tv regularly, since the demise of "The X Files", but I remember seeing a commercial for this "Calling" show. What's the time, day and network? (If you don't mind.)
Guest LauraKrycek
I haven't seen anything about it, because I don't watch TV anymore, but it seems like something that would come on the WB or something. One of those spunky wannabe-scifi teen shows.

Ah, FOX -- guess it's the new Dark Angel instead of the new Buffy. Easy enough mistake.

I love DARK ANGEL. too bad FOX cancelled it after picking it up for a third season which they decided not to do after renewing the show a few days before. Never was a Dark Angel fan. I watched the first couple of episodes and thought that it was okay, but could be better, and then missed a couple. When I came back, I found, unfortunately, that it had gotten worse instead of better. Too bad. Not my style, I guess.
