Guest LauraKrycek
You might not want to read this if you haven't seen "Adaptation". It doesn't ruin anything, but I understand anti-spoiler-ites. I just saw the movie "Adaptation" last night, and they make reference in it to the ouroborous -- only other thing beside MM (and XF) that I've heard mention it, at least by name. Here's a fragment from the original script: (brothers Donald and Charlie are talking about the screenplay Donald has just finished) Donald: It's, like, once I saw this picture of a snake swallowing its tail -- Kaufman: Ouroborous. Donald: I don't know what that means. Kaufman: The snake is called ouroborous. Donald: I don't think so. But it's cool for my killer to have this modus operandi. Because at the end when he forces the woman, who's really just him, to eat herself, he's also eating himself to death. Kaufman: I'm insane. I'm ouroborous. Donald: I don't know what that is. Kaufman: I've written myself into my screenplay. It's eating itself. I'm eating myself. And the subject kind of changes after that. I just thought it was cool... maybe Charlie Kaufman is a MM fan? His stuff is sure weird... um, I mean, original enough...
voidprime
I passed on renting Adaptation since I have not heard of one person who rented in it (in my area) that even liked it and I thought Being John Malkovich was overrated (but not as bad as American Beauty which is really a trite and extremely overrated piece of dren (crap)). Guest LauraKrycek
Well, I really liked "Adaptation", and I even liked "Being John Malkovitch", despite the whole thing being one long acid trip. And I loved "American Beauty" (though I saw it so many time in my freshman year of college that I can't watch it anymore). Sorry, guess I like movies more like that instead of what I think is crap, like all those stupid scifi\action movies like "Alien" and the more recent "Star Wars" suckages. American Beauty disappointed me as a viewer on so many levels. It didn't go far enough as having the characters really taking some risks without copping out in the end. So many tired cliches that have been used in many movies before. Worst movie I saw in the year it came out. As for crap sci-fi movies, the new Star wars movies had some good moments despite some very bad writing (Attack of the Clones was much better than The Phantom Meh despite it didn't have a cool light saber fight as cool as The Phantom Meh had). The first three Alien movies are great and the fourth one I like better with each viewing (despite the second half of the movie being a letdown). The 3 worst sci-fi movies of this year: 1. Hulk- kept getting worse as it went on 2. Pluto Nash- great costumes and art design, but the script stank 3. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen- bad script that mangles a great comic book (R rated comic book) Be Seeing You, David Blackwell

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen- bad script that mangles a great comic book (R rated comic book) The thing about American Beauty was that Spacey was so out of it the whole time, dreaming about the things that he wanted that his life couldn't give him. He saw the world outside as so different, unattainable happiness. And then he finally began to go for the happiness that he envisioned. But just after the moment that he realizes once and for all that the world wasn't what it seemed, and that everything he ever needed and wanted, he had, it was taken away from him. Yeah, it's been done, but you could also say it's true-to-life. Actually, it kind of reminds me of the story in "Somehow, Satan Got Behind Me", when the demon allows the humans to destroy themselves slowly, and just before the jumper hits the ground, he realizes what he's done, just too late. I definitely thought that AB was the best, deepest movie I saw that year. But I like really deep movies that make me think and question things. Two of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen are "The Remains of the Day" and "The Winter Guest", both starring Emma Thompson. I highly recommend them. I didn't see Pluto Nash or League of... etc., but I saw The Hulk when I was home over Thanksgiving, on video. I definitely thought it could have been done better. Plus I think that I'm totally over Jennifer Connely; granted, I've only seen her in Labyrinth, The Rocketeer, and that, but I much preferred her earlier performances. And now she's set to star in the American remake of the fantastic Japanese suspense thriller Dark Water. Well, just shoot me in the pancreas and call it a day. That would be awesome. Of course, anything involving that trio has to be awesome. Has anyone else seen "Dark Water"? I've seen it twice now, once in Leicester Square while in London, and once after I got back and it turned out a friend of mine had happened to buy a bootleg DVD of it while in Malaysia this summer. Go fig. I *highly* recommend that movie... even just looking at some of the screen caps from it give me the creeps. ::shudders:: And yeah, you should def. see "Adaptation". I saw it on a free movie channel preview, so I didn't have to pay for it, nyah nyah but I def. would've paid the couple of bucks to rent it. I'm still thinking about it, two days later, and kind of confused as well... but that's the way I think it wants to leave you. Wondering exactly how much you're told is how things are... well, I can't really talk about it w\o spoiling some things, so I'll shut up now.
