I won't be coming in this thread as Season 3 hasn't started in the UK but this is for those in the US and Canada where 24 is currently running on FOX on Tuesday nights.

This thread is for discussion that will contain minor and major spoilers as the talk will be about new episodes.

Saw and was amazed by a new 24 advert earlier yesterday evening on Sky One. It was on during the ad break of a new Simpsons episode. They've used one of the images from the front page of this board with the red spots showing the virus.

And also for a brief 2-4 seconds you get a yellow 24 logo on the screen with the tick-tock sound inbetween the shows on Sky One. Saw this before, during and after The Simpsons yesterday.

1p.m. - 2 p.m. - SEASON PREMIERE

I was asked this question on another TV forum about 24's third season:

Q: Will each episode of Season 3 be like the season premiere in terms of the duration?

A: It's only for the season premiere. As with Season 2 when it was first tried out, the premiere was uninterrupted by ads and was sponsored by Ford. The first episode of Season 3 is 51 minutes long. The critic in TV Zone who is reviewing 24 asked about why it was 51 minutes long when there were no ads.

Two things:

1.) Perhaps like with Season 2's premiere there could have been a speech by Kiefer Sutherland thanking Ford for their sponsorship.

& 2.) There are a few deleted scenes from this episode which happened with the Season 2 premiere, that we later got on the DVD containing the first four episodes of S2. This could happen again when the DVD of Season 3 comes out.

My review:

I missed the first minute (just got back in time from ringing) which I think was just the re-cap of the closing moments of Season 2 when Palmer was given a deadly handshake from Mandy. Good opening scene with the infected dead body dumped outside the entrance to the LA Health Centre. Did anyone else think that Dr Sunny Macer looked like Alberta Green (Tamlyn Tomita) from Season 1?

Jack looked cool in his back suit as we were introduced to him and Chase (who was also wearing a smart suit. Liked that look. Blue shirt and black suit) at the prison. Although it wasn't as nasty as I thought it was, the "signing" by Ramon Salazar was good although I knew about it prior to this episode airing. I've seen Joaquim ___ Almeida before in the very good Clear and Present Danger.

Now one of the frequent topics of discussion since Season 3 started has been about Chase's nose that it is rather pointed. Do you think so? I don't think it's like the Penguin's.

Another frequent topic has been about Jack's secretary in the new CTU Field Office, Chloe - that she's a bit of an oddball. I don't think from this first episode that she's like that. I thought she was good. It's having a good variety of characters that is important to telling a good story.

I love the new look CTU and the other part (the Field Office where Jack is working from). Although I thought it was difficult to see some of it as the screen was a bit darker. I was impressed by the dimmed glass surrounding Jack's office. Neat.

Kim was kept in the background for most of the premiere in her new role at CTU (I never thought she was annoying before so despite some people saying who thought she was think she isn't annoying in this episode, I do think that she wouldn't get on anyone's nerves really when you see her at CTU). I liked the scene where she was asking her boss Adam (before finding his name was Adam I thought he was a different new character at CTU) for data to be sent to her computer so she could complete her task given to her by Michelle (who is good giving orders).

Tony's looking as cool as ever. Michelle is still one of my fave sexiest 24 actresses.

I liked the theatre-like set where President Palmer was. His friend Anne Packard seems nice although Chief of Staff Wayne Palmer (played well in this by DB Woodside from Buffy) is suspicious of her.

Las Nieves, North Mexico

I was well impressed by this although I spotted the pronounciation by Hector Salazar of Claudia's name which has been mentioned a bit on the FOX boards - Cloud-dia. She's nice looking Claudia. She's got Angelina Jolie-style lips! The truck with the experimented on bodies scene was a touch scary adding an insight into what is going on (this is one thing which I love about 24). The Salazar's villa is very impressive. Good design.

Well I thought this was a solid opener. Not 5 star stuff but a good start which basically set the scene for the first third of Season 3. I like most of the new characters, even Hector Salazar who I wasn't sure of at first after seeing his headshot in a TV mag. Not 100% liking Chase yet.

I like what was going on in the plot with Kyle Singer and the "bag of powder" that he was preparing in his bedroom, and how it finished off in this first hour.

One of the things I love with 24 is how you have these few stories that somehow have some link with one another.

*** 1/2.

I live in the US and I was satisfied with the ending to 2:00 AM to 3:00 AM (the episode that aired on FOX tonight).

As much I hated to see Nina killed so soon, but I got some type of satisfaction of seeing Jack shoot Nina. Maybe it is just the 24 fan in me that wants to see Jack get his revenge against Nina finally.

I'd better post in the other 24 folder! I'd already read about that in Tuesday's episode gone anyway. As this thread hadn't had much activity in it I posted about the first episode of Season 3 and was going to continue posting comments about each new episode in it. But I shan't be now! But do continue posting in here! Speaking for myself, I'll get round to reading any new replies in the future.
