How Many Editions Of A Movie Should Be On Dvd?

Recommended Posts

Some people have been complain ing about multiple releases of a movies that the studios keep putting out. They do the bare bones or whatever and later release another edition with extras or more extras. Here I point everyone to this article. Discuss what the article brings up.

i didnt read the article but i enjoy getting the special editions of movies(ie-seven,lotr) but most movies do not deserve to have special ed., but i do find myself incredibly pissed when i bought a okay movie and then they come out w/ a sp ed. it sucks.

I think they should just release as the special edition...Its irratating that if you want see a movie right away you just have to go back out and buy another when it comes out with more special features...

i am far too much of a tight fisted person to ever buy a DVD twice. IN my head its such a waste of money that I would not ever contemplate it. ANy additional info about a movie I can read about on the internet, and usually after I watch a movie, even bad ones, I usually go to IMDB and read about it to see what other people thought, did they notice something I didn;t, etc. I don't need to watch special features to find them out. Maybe we need to have bare bone DVDs given a ceiling price that they can be sold at (e.g., the bare bones Donnie Darko is going for £5.99 in the UK), and additonal features cost more E.g., make the RRp on them 12.99), leading up to the double DVD format (e.g., make the RRp 19.99). I say this becasue there are stil plenty of bare bone DVDs that are selling for over £15, which is a complete rip off, and also, in the UK the double DVDs seem to rarely sell at there full 25.99 price.

However, I also think that there should be some standardisation across regions for special features. The final straw for me was buying the R2 West WIng S3 boxset to find that the leaflet inside listed special features that weren't on the disc. The special features will be on the forthcoming R1 edition. So, R2 get teased with features that they can't watch.....bloody unfair!

I think two should be the max. Either both should be released at the same time, or, like The Lord of The Rings Extended versions, should be announced before the regular edition is even released. Now that special editions are so common; I think special editions will more often be released at the same time as the standard.

True. Agreed. I like one version myself and not multiple editions, but sometimes I think standard releases come out first to test the waters and get it to DVD first. Sometimes Special Editions are done to improve on the first release or correct the screw-ups of the first release. Alas Multiple editions come out to make more money and more money for the company/studio that puts them out.

I agree, David. As I said before...I think it's quite obviously a ploy to get more money. "If You Build It, They Will Come"...and...."If You Put It On DVD, They Will Pay Good Money For It!" :gaba::smokin:
