Oops, I was cleaning off my keyboard a little and somehow I sent the previous message before it was done. OK, as I was saying, I have a couple of things that bugged me a little with the episode. First, there is this web page of unknown origins sending a series of grainy, fuzzy, still images to the viewers. This may have been covered before, but why is it that people are so convinced that these photos are real, when we have been seeing equally, or more effective special effects in movies for over 25 years, and the images have been a lot clearer than what was provided on the web page. If I went to that web page and saw it, I don't know if it would even cross my mind that it was for real and not faked.

Second, I know that Frank had his "gift", but I found it a little hard to swallow that he was so convinced that the printout of the crime, which was probably even less clear than the monitor image, was real. He doesn't appear to even examine the photo closely before declaring in such a matter of fact way "no, they're real".

Third, I thought the episode went a little overboard with Roedecker. I realize that he is more of a technical person, and not a group member, but I found his character to be a bit more of a "babe in the woods" with his responses to the images and Franks profiling then you would expect from someone whose character is not supposed to be a teenager and has been recruited to work for the Millennium group, given the often gruesome nature of their work. Maybe it was just me.

Fourth, I had a real problem with the detective they were contacting regarding the case (the one who investigated the Zodiac killer). Maybe it was intentional that they made him so irritating, but I have a hard time believing that he would last long as a detective if he was so closed minded to such credible people as Frank and Peter. I probably would have said "Listen you little punk, cut the arrogant condescending attitude and pay attention!!". Anyway, overall it was a great and memorable episode, just nit picking a little. I think my little issues make it about a 9.5 instead of a 10.

... You didn't find it a bit scary? Furthermore, it was a very good idea at that time (it still is.. but it's been used a lot in the recent years).

I watched this again last night and I think its fantastic. Its like a mini movie and its so economical and well paced that it works flawlessly. Not to mention Frank and Peter are both sexy to the extreme in this one.

You certainly are hung up on Frank and Peter, Janie. Mind you, I can talk, it's Lara Lara Lara in Ethsnafu Land.

I had the chance to interview Michael Perry who wrote Mikado recently, news on this shortly, and he didn't go in too much depth on that particular episode save to say that he constantly receives calls and messages from friends who have caught the latest Mikado-a-like tv episode or film. It still irks me, as much as I enjoy them, that the Hostel films are credited with giving birth to the genre of torture-porn or gorno as it is sometimes known when Michael was writing about it a decade earlier. He doesn't seem to mind however.

BTW It is worth reading the interview just to hear what he has to say about Thirteen Years Later, the single best explanation of how an episode came to be ever!

Beerbelch, I agree, this was a great episode. It's not my favorite, but at the time, there was nothing anywhere else to compare. Now that kind of plot is everywhere, or as BB put it, "beaten like a dead horse." Love the way you put it BB. Yes Eth, "Mikado-a-like tv episode or film" is good too.

Eth, I agree with JanieJones, both Frank and Peter are hot, but as you all know, Earthnut prefers Frank. You guys must always remember that we women look at these men from a different perspective then you. Guess I should now say, "thank goodness for that."

Laurent, yes this episode was scary to watch. It used to be your eye, but it doesn't scare me as much anymore. I've come a long way baby. Having it follow me everywhere is now kind of comforting.

Another movie that rips this episode off is Cradle of fear.

I looked up "Cradle of Fear" on imdb. I'm not sure what to make of the summaries, but the lead actor having the pseudonym of "Dani Filth" raises an eyebrow or two. The Millennium episode, though, was groundbreaking in terms of making a link between use of the internet and the exhibitionist behaviour of some serial killers.

It sucks just as much.

:wha:
