Well said indeed, se7en.

As for MDM's original comments about the deviation from Carter's original vision, it almost makes me even more excited to watch the extras because now I'm curious about who bears the responsibility for steering the show in that new direction. (Personally, I've always suspected it was the individual writers and, later, Morgan & Wong, obviously).

By the sounds of MDM's descriptions, it's as if the show developed a life of its own that grew beyond Carter's control or intention. But it obviously went in a direction that has had a tremendous impact on all of us fans, possibly more so than the show Carter had intended to make.

I'm excited to watch & decide for myself when those of us in the US finally get what we've been waiting for all these years.

...oh i agree with that very much. and much as C.C. is talented, dare i say even visionary, he still is one of those creative people that is only as good as those who surround him. he could NEVER carry a show on his own like some creator/writer/prroducers do. he needs to be surrounded by the right people. that's my opinion anyway. ...and as many reservations as i have about S2 if it had not existed then S3 would not have been as amazing as it was. ...people will think this blasphemous but i actually wish they would release S3 next and then S2 just so i could watch the extras and hear the comentaries. ...but irregardless i shall treasure all 3 sets as i aquire them!

i am very excited about S2 coming. for me its a bit unfortunate that its being released at the end of september. the students are back at uni and i'll have problems finding time to sit and enjoy a MM marathon. AND the next couple of months are very heavy in terms of DVD TV show releases. R2 west wing S4, ER R2 S2, both MM seasons, Law & Order CI R1 S2 are all out by the end of september and they're only the ones i can think of off the top of my head

.....speaking of L&O:Criminal Intent and the extras comments. this is the perfect example, though by no means the only one. CI is the third, and for my taste, the best L&O of them all. my wife bought me the first complete seasos this past x-mas. now here in the states this is a hugely popular show wathced by umpteen millions every week. and yet.......the "only" extra to be found in the whole damn set is a 27-minute "making-off".-(though both the 5.1 audio and the video are sweet-sweet-perfection! worth every damn cent!)- and this set went for more than the S1-MM is currently going for. you just never know. it's really is a hit or miss proposition.

...on the other hand cult fav. Highlander, which was a smash in canada/europe but very much "only" a cult-thing in the states is being put out by anchor bay. and no one, i mean absolutely NO ONE, FOR ME, has even come close to matching these breathtaking box sets. everything about them is cutting edge and they BLEED excellence with extras that boggle, and entertain, the mind.-(no "filler" extras on these babies!)- if there are better box sets out there then they are of a series i don't like-(BUFFY/FIREFLY,etc)-and/or i just have not seen or bought/rented them yet. these miraculous sets are the standard i hold "all" others too in terms of packaging/extras/video.

...this is just a brief bit o' 'OT' here, but not completely at least!- :eyes:

strangely enough, i bought L&O: CI a couple of weeks ago (R1). just arrived the otehr day. anyway, with the exchange rate it worked out at about £26, which is £4 cheaper than the UK MM boxset. but for those kinds of prices i am willing to sacrifice the extras. however, i was surprised by the LOCI set as i was always hearing how there where far more extras on R1 DVDs.

and i agree with you seven. LOCI is definetly the best of the L&O brand. i wonder if all MM fans prefer this one to the others?

.....yeah the set was more expensive over here. not sure if the price went down or not by now.

...my "guess" from the posts i've come across is that most here prefer SVU, because of it's underlying themes. but denise and i have always jokingly referred to Goren as Frank-black with a wacky side! :grin2: after all he is a helluva profiler and a master interrogator,eh?

i have to admit the goren character makes the show IMHO. i know he's suppose to be based on sherlock homes, but i think he's far more columbo (ah, one more question...) i do enjoy SVU for its stories, but i don't find the characters (cept for Munch) that interesting. SVU stories are also really sad and depressing. at least i get a chuckle watching CI. but, what i find interesting, is that all of goren's interrogation tactics are based on deceipt and physically intimidating the perp- something which is illegal for the police to do in the UK. so, while there is alot made out of goren being a master interogator he's make a pretty crap one over here.

Basically, I just find the set to actually be a bare bones set. The extras add nothing and are actually misleading as to what Millennium is really like especially in later seasons. I still think it's a big scam that S2 and 3 aren't mentioned because the only reason not to even mention this, is that you don't want people to know without buying it.

As a spectacle the set is dissapointing; I will never watch the documentaries again, never listen to the commentaries again. As to good value... well yes but then I already had the entire season on VHS! Now of course it was my decision to buy it but then I hoped for some more explanation of episodes and ideas than I got... As to the actual watching... well frankly I still prefer my videos. I have approx 8 episodes to one video with the advert breaks chopped out because of careful taping. I can only watch 4 episodes on DVD before having to change the disc AND I have to manually select each new episode and go through all the disclaimers and then the credits etc.

Out of a love for the show I will be buying the next sets as well. However I hope for some substantial improvements on them.

I'm not sure I follow you here. Its hardly a barebones set! Key cast members may be missing missing from the 'making of' featurette and deleted scenes should have been included if available. However there are commentaries and a fascinating interviw with the Acadamy Group where you cans see immediately how Lance came to his opinions of them. Why would S2 and S3 be mentioned? This is Season one and I wouldn't expect S3 to mention S1? Its season one and has all the episodes, a making off, extra interviews and commentaries from two of the most important crew (plus mini interviews from others).

No doubt the importance of the Millennium logo etc will be more of interest to Millennium website managers and those interested in such things.

I think reading the rest of your post that you have truly missed the whole point of having the show on DVD, I can't for one minute understand your comparison and explanation of dodgy tv recordings being more watchable than the super crystal clear dvd's, not to mention the benefits of the format as a whole.

I can only watch 4 episodes on DVD before having to change the disc

My God, you don't want to stretch your legs after 4x45 minute episodes?

LOL! You can watch 4 episodes without changing a disc, to do that on vhs tape you lose all the quality.

go through all the disclaimers and then the credits etc

I agree with you here, the disclaimer should appear once on a dvd, not before each episode. Complete overkill. However, watching the credits is a pleasure, they've never been so colourful and clear. You have fast forward button on the remote you know!
