More post-storm reports are coming in. Weather stations both just to the north and south of me have reported 70 - 80 mph gusts during the storm.

And just around the corner from my house, one of the many large trees that line the road had been uprooted in the early hours of the morning. This is right outside the local secondary school and there's usually a lot of cars and buses using that road at school times, but fortunately it's half-term.

It's all quietened down now. Although there's more wet'n'windy weather forecast for the weekend, it'll be the more normal autumn storm - the "don't bother taking a brolly 'cos it'll only get blown inside out" type.

I'm feeling a little bit guilty, because when other parts of the world get severe weather it's usually much worse than we get. Hurricane Sandy was a lot worse.

But, clearly my mood has lightened - possibly because I've been thinking of lovely, comforting fattening winter meals such as stew'n'dumplings - and I had to laugh when I found this:

I am glad you are okay! I want to make lemongrass soup. I had some recently at a party. Good luck finding lemongrass though. So I ordered seeds to grow my own. MIght be a long wait! I'll try pumpkin soup this year too, when the weather cools. It's 80 out tonight, and steamy!

hope any members in Texas that were in the downpour of 12-14 inches of rain [ 30+ to 35+ cms ] are safe tonite !

Yikes! Not only is that an incredible amount of rain, but it must have been quite dangerous to have been caught out in, or at least painful.

please watch the video at this website woot.gifhttps://www.poopourri.com/

I thought it was a spoof, but then thought that the science could work, so I googled:

Scroll down to the, ahem, bottom of that page - "Annual revenue: $8 million"!

Ooops:

"A Boeing 747 Dreamlifter cargo plane will attempt to take off from a minor airport in Kansas after it landed there by mistake."

"An Amtrak train en route to New York City from Harrisburg made a wrong turn last week and got lost in the Philadelphia suburbs, officials say."

We don't get much of that sort of problem here, mostly because we don't have that many airports or railway lines. But we do have narrow streets:

"A lorry driver, following directions from his satellite navigation system, caused the 24-hour closure of Bruton high street in Somerset after his vehicle became wedged in a narrow street."
