I was a bit puzzled - till I got the joke. biggrin.gif Outhouses (also known as a "dunny" in Australia, for some reason) were very common in the UK in some urban areas until fairly recently, i.e. within my timeline. We did have an outside toilet, but at least it was connected to the main sewer system. In the winter, if desparate and the upstairs loo was engaged, it was a case of coat, scarf, hat, gloves, no, not gloves, and making a dash for it...
