Snow Files of the Week

Have you seen the two double cd volumes of the Milennium OST available now on Amazon? They were released on 17 July. UK versions at GBP 31.99 each. A review gives a track listing for volume one. Just in case of interest. I have enjoyed collecting the tracks by artists that have been used on the series. The cds appear only to have Mark Snow's music.

These are the two 2-Disc-Sets released by La-La-Land Records, containing Mark Snow's score for the show. Highly recommended and they are limited to 2.000 copies (Vol 2) and 1.000 copies (Vol 1). Vol.1 was already released by La-La Land Records in 2008 and it sold out a year later. Now they just re-released Vol.1, together with Vol. 2.

Snow Files of the Week: "Overlooking Tradition/The Challenge/Chain Gang" from "Harsh Realm" (1999).

The short-lived Chris Carter show of course also had a musical score by Mark Snow. His approach was more industrial than on the other Carter shows "The X-Files" and "MillenniuM". But nevertheless he wrote some very haunting tunes for that show, too.
The score was released on CD by La-La-Land Records, paired with Mark's music for the "X-Files" spin-off "The Lone Gunmen". The album is limited to 2.000 copies and there are less than 50 copies left at La-La Land Records.

Enjoy!

I couldn't find a 2-disc at La La, and already bought the first one years ago.  SadEyes, would you mind posting a link for me?

Thanks again for another awesome track from Mark.

You're welcome. :) But there is no 2-Disc set available. The one, that you bought years ago, is the only available album with music from "The Lone Gunmen" and "Harsh Realm". And considering that it wasn't a bestseller, I guess there won't be more volumes unfortunately.

Snow Files of the Week: "Orgell/Bill of Health" from "The X-Files", episode "S.R. 819" (1998).

In this season six episode, Assistant Director Walter Skinner gets infected with nanobots by Alex Kryczek. It was an attempt by the writers of the show to put Skinner back in the game, since they felt his role was becoming more and more expendable.

Mark's music features another brilliant piano theme, along with other trademarks of his music. These two pieces of music were released on the second volume of X-Files music by La-La-Land Records. The box set is limited to 3.000 copies.

Enjoy!

Again, you're welcome.

Snow Files of the Week: "Main Title/The Pits/Cliffside Chase/Maggie Leaves" from "Jake Speed" (1986).

It's time for some cheesy 80's action. During the mid-80's, Mark began composing more electronic scores, after he bought a synclavier (which Mark still uses).

In 1986, "Jake Speed" came along and with him Mark's electronic 80's score. The score was released back then by Varese Sarabande Records on Vinyl and got a CD release just a few years ago on Buysoundtrax Records, limited to 1000 copies. If you're interested, they still have some copies, signed by Mark, left. Enjoy the ride back to the 80's!

Snow Files of the Week: "Hollywood/The Kiss" from "The X-Files", episode "Hollywood A.D." (2000).

In this season seven episode, written and directed by David Duchovny, a movie called "The Lazarus Bowl" is being made, starring Garry Shandling and Téa Leoni as Mulder and Scully. The episode has many in-jokes and satirical scenes about the movie business.

Mark's score also has some over the top old-fashioned "Hollywood music", portraying the world of glamour and movie stars, as heard in the cue "Hollywood". "The Kiss" on the other hand is another beautiful musical moment created by Mark.

These two tracks are featured on the first box set of X-Files music by La-La Land Records, which is now sold out.

Enjoy!
