Snow Files of the Week: "Suite from The X-Files" (1996).

 

What better way to celebrate the return of The X-Files onto the tv screen, than listening to over half an hour of music from the first three seasons? This suite was arranged by John Beal, in co-operation with Mark and his music editor Jeff Charbonneau.

 

This suite is featured on the sampler "The Snow Files", as well as on the album "The X-Files: 20th Anniversary" by Buysoundtrax Records. This album is limited to 1.000 copies.

Snow Files of the Week: "Journey North/Northern Lights" from "MillenniuM", episode "Luminary" (1997).

Another fan favourite, this episode takes Frank Black to Alaska in search of a missing young man. His dead body has already been found, but Frank senses, that there is more to it and that the man is still alive.

Mark scores this episode with one of the most oustanding music of the whole show. His use of a flute sound and an etheral choir accompanies Frank's journey into the harsh nature, right up to the luminary that Frank witnesses at night.

The music was released on the second volume of MillenniuM music by La-La Land Records. The set is limited to 2.000 copies.

Snow Files of the Week: "Harold & Chrissy/Closure", from "The X-Files", episode "Jose Chung's From Outer Space" (1996).

To celebrate the return of "The X-Files", we dug deep in the archive and brought this little gem back into the light. "Jose Chung's From Outer Space" is one of the wackiest episodes of season three. Written by Darin Morgan, it takes the pillars of the show and turns them upside down in a way. Is the truth really out there? And if so, who's truth is it?

"Harold & Chrissy" opens the episode, when two teenagers are abducted by aliens. This event sets off a string of even stranger events, before Jose Chung comes to the conclusion, that maybe we aren't alone in the universe, but on this planet, in our own separate ways, we are all alone. This final scene is scored with one of the most beautiful themes, that Mark has written for the show, "Closure".

This piece of music also closes the over thirty minutes long suite of X-files music, that is featured on the sampler "The Snow Files". But in the suite, it has been altered slightly, with a choir added to the mix.

The music from "Jose Chung's From Outer Space" also appeared completely on a promotional CD, that was meant as a FYC CD for the Emmys.

These two tracks were released on the first volume of X-Files music from La-La Land Records. This volume was limited to 3.000 copies and sold out over two years ago. But it will be reissued on February 9th. So be there!

Hope I am posting this question in the right spot.  Looking for the music in the episode Sense and Antisense when the bleeding man gets in the cab.  The same music appears a little later when he is being wheeled thru the hospital on the bed.  Anyone know if this is part of Mark Snow's work?  The music reminds me of the style of the group Enigma which was still popular around the same time.  Thanks for any help. :-)

@RDSWYSD4 I'm pretty sure this piece of music is from Mark's score for this episode. Unfortunately this track hasn't been released yet.

Snow files of the Week: "Damascus/The Subject", from "MillenniuM", episode "Owls" (1998).

As members of the MillenniuM group find a piece of wood in Damascus, that was a part of the cross, on which Jesus was crucified, the group gets divided into two parties, the "Owls" and the "Roosters". While the "Owls" don't believe in the apocalypse coming with the year 2000, but in cosmic events, that will start with the year 2000 and change the world 60 years later, the "Roosters" are convinced that the end is near. Things get more complicated as a third party is trying to get its hands on the piece of the cross.

Mark's music accompanies the group members killing each other over the piece of wood in Damascus, as well as giving the episode a religious tonality in "The Subject".

These tracks are featured on the first volume of MillenniuM music by La-La Land Records, that was released in 2008. The first edition was limited to 2.000 copies and sold out in 2010. In 2015, this edition was reissued, now limited to just 1.000 copies.
