This may not work, but to me, it's better then no Shoutbox at all, until Graham can set us up with something.  Conversations can still be carried out, it will just be a little slower then what we are used to.  I thought a poll asking "Yes," "No," or "Maybe" as to whether this will work or not would be fun.  As you can see, I voted "Maybe," since I'm the first person here...well dah Darlene.

P S ~ Because I am unable to reply to this thread at the present time, 8/4/15, I was given the option to edit my original post.  Kinda weird that the one who started the thread can't comment...LOL

Thank you Libby and Graham for staying on top of this.  Very ironic that the one thread created to somehow, someway, temporarily take the place of the Shoutbox is unable to to accept comments.  I do know that if anyone can fix it, Graham can.

We could start a new thread without the poll and see if it works, and not even use the term "Shoutbox," but instead call it, "Commentbox," just in case there's a little hex on this thread.  Oh well...at least I can edit...LOL

Very good idea, Darlene. There's another forum where there's a thread for people to just generally chat, such as "Morning everyone. Weather's good/bad/atrocious. Had fried bacon'n'egg for breakfast." Much like the shoutbox, but with a bit more of a conversational flow, such as "Bacon: smoked or unsmoked?"

Also: a thread allows for longer posts than the shoutbox.

Even if the shoutbox comes back, we could still keep this thread going.

I had an eventful day today, but I couldn't write about it in the shoutbox as there wouldn't have been enough room.

I did set up the Miscellaneous thread for, well, miscellaneous stuff, but it doesn't work as a general chat area as the shoutbox did.

So I've voted "yes".

There appears to be a problem with the board software. A couple of Members can't reply to this topic, and they have both voted. Graham and I are wondering if the block on Members voting twice is somehow preventing them from replying as well. Graham has raised this issue with the board software gurus.

In the meantime, it's probably best if people refrain from voting, just in case - but until this issue gets resolved please just write a reply and tell us what you think!

This has been a major upgrade to the board software, and there's likely to be some teething problems. But Graham's on the case (goodness knows how he's finding time to sleep!)

Hi, Libby!  I got the report, too!  And I wasn't sure what to do about it.  Glad to see you have already, as always, been right "on the ball", with things!

I don't know how Graham finds time to sleep, either!

In the continuing absence of the shoutbox, let's try and use this area.

There's a quote in an advert on UK telly: Even a small victory is a victory.

Last week I was victorious in successfully putting together a flat-pack single bed all by myself. I had firstly to google for the instructions (and download and print them) because they hadn't been included in the packaging. I also ended up aching in places. It took me ages, but I felt inordinately proud of myself.

So, how's everyone doing? Any small victories?

Yeah, I can post now...my bad.  Checked a box that shouldn't have been checked.

Hope everyone uses this thread.  As I said, it's better then no Shoutbox.

I should point out that although I managed to figure out half the answer, it was Darlene who supplied the other half. Teamwork! I love it!

As for checking a box that shouldn't have been checked - I think the wording of that checkbox is very misleading. If I hadn't had another rummage around in the innards of the software, I wouldn't have realised what that checkbox actually meant.

I should also point out that the vote that's taken the "maybe" to 50% was made by me, as my alternate login of Bip, which I used to test out how it all looked without my admin "superpowers".

"Super Libby" comes through again!  Amen to teamwork.

Teamwork is better than superpowers. There's not much point having "superpowers" if you don't have someone pointing you in the right direction.
