Elders (Admins) Libby Posted November 29, 2015 Elders (Admins) Share Posted November 29, 2015 Is that that normal for middle-USA/Oklahoma at this time of year? It sounds rather scary to me.
Earthnut
We usually get an ice storm at least once a year, but considering how early in the Winter this one arrived, I'm hoping we don't have a bad Winter this year. We had a mild Winter last year, barely noticed it actually. They say El Nino is going to be a big thing this year and cause a lot of sever weather and damage. seesthru
I had my first freezing rain/ice storm here a couple of years ago. Took out my orange trees and eucalyptus tree. People in the Florida Panhandle were ice skating on roads, and having fun.. They closed everything down road-wise, even the interstate.

A very rare happening in Florida.
Elders (Admins) Libby Posted November 30, 2015 Elders (Admins) Share Posted November 30, 2015 This is a good example of learning just by chatting on the internet. I wouldn't have thought it was possible for ice/snow in Florida, even if rare. I think most people in the UK would equate Florida with either "hot" or "Disneyland". Isn't it called "the Sunshine State", or is that one of the others?

I remember one year back in the late 60s when the entire Southern half of the U S had a snow storm. I remember it well since my ex and I were driving in it from Florida to California. seesthru
One year we had snow on Thanksgiving and on Christmas eve! Then in 1992 or 1993 we had 75 mph winds and snow blowing sideways with thunder too! THat was some huge storm that started South Of Mobile Alabama and went up to the northeast. Lots of cold and snow with that one. Here we got 2 inches of snow! We get it on average once ever 7 years, and we get sleet once ever 2 or 3 years. I"m in Northwest Florida. It's really far from Disney. We are only 3 hours west of New Orleans.
