complicity
Hi everyone... I have a pretty specific problem that I want to ask about. I own the R1 sets for Millennium S1 & S2, and I bought a new DVD player today because it does divx. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to like my MM discs very much. The problem I am having, and this is only with my new player, is that there is a small (1/4 or 1/8 second) pause in both audio and video at pretty much every chapter break. Talk about annoying. I even upgraded the player firmware to the latest version. My player is a Philips DVP642/37 and I thought I'd check here on the ever-so-slight chance that someone else has the same player and I can compare experiences with them. I'm not holding my breath, of course, but I had to make the effort. :) I tried a couple of movies (retail discs) and they seem fine. Even a Fox title (Fight Club). Any relevant input is much appreciated. Thank you!
Elders (Admins) The Old Man Posted January 18, 2005 Elders (Admins) Share Posted January 18, 2005 Hi sorry to hear of your troubles. I don't have the same make as you so I can't help much. Anyone else got one of these?

It's actually a bit of a relief to hear that someone else is having the same "hesitations" during the playing of their discs, and that I don't have the only copy of a defective Millennium DVD set...! (LOL) I haven't tried it on my other DVD player (a junky no-name) but I'm going to assume it works fine on all other players since you don't see anybody else posting but the two Philips DVP642 owners (that'd be you & me). In every other respect the DVP642 is an awesome DVD player, especially at the price!! Enjoy.

Guest jargon
Hello, I have similar problems with my laptop (and only DVD player) CD-ROM/DVD drive when trying to play many of the Millennium DVD's. Some work, others don't. My software can restart from where the DVD left off, so for a couple of finnicky DVDs I started one that worked, skipped into a scene on an episode, and then replaced the well-behaved DVD with the less cooperative one. That worked once or twice. I used a friend's standard DVD player and was able to use them, so thought maybe I had damaged my hardware. Guess not. Thanks for the message. Anyhow, I'm still troubleshooting. I have downloaded a new driver for the IDE drive but not yet tested it. My discs are clean and new, and there are no visible defects. I'm sure that for some reason the drive has problems with them. The symptoms: Repeated attempts to "wind-up" to speed without getting anywhere, keeping my system occupied until I open the CD-ROM to force it to stop its spastic and fruitless attempts at reading the disc. There are clicks. I'm only an amateur tech geek and student, so can't add much more to the discussion.
Elders (Admins) The Old Man Posted March 16, 2005 Elders (Admins) Share Posted March 16, 2005 Sorry to hear that you are having problems Jargon. I have a Pioneer DVR-107D DVD Rewriter in my PC and I had a few issues navigating the menu's on some of the discs of Season One. I switched from PowerDVD to WinDVD and the problems seemed to go away. I've watched the episodes on my Panasonic E-50 DVD Recorder on TV for the most part with no problems as yet. Like you I have a DVD-Rom/CD Rewriter drive in my Dell Laptop, and that has had occasional sticky moments, usually with DVD-R's from my DVD Recorder. I've found skipping back and then forwards a frame or two usually gets me past the problem point. I've put it down to the DVD-R's having an occasional glitch though. Guest ollie toledo
hey i have the Philips DVP642/37 & the Pioneer DVR-107D (excellent burner) As far as the Philips goes I never noticed any problems with the MM discs, but i sold them to a friend after backing them up so i can't verify the problems you have. One option would be to burn backups and use them. It is a truly great player for the price i can't believe how many different discs that i collected over years that play in the player. You should note though that i have found many reports of problems on the net. It seems that 1 out of 5 players wont play out of the box and some will die after 5 or 6 months giving the error 'no disc'. As well it reportedly overheats very easily, so you should make sure to leave lots of space around the vents. But considering the price and features I really like it. Elders (Admins) The Old Man Posted March 17, 2005 Elders (Admins) Share Posted March 17, 2005 Thanks for the information. Sounds like the original Poster had one of those bad recorders. I love the Panasonic DMR-E50, my only complaint is that it only supports DVD-R and DVD-RAM, and not DVD-RW as well. However its rock solid.
