let me just say this.........MM series i think is the most unique series of its time. It was appealing because it happen to air in the late 90's when everyone at that time was worried about the new Millenium. It drew me in because of its dark and gloom themes. To me it was very real

Well, I'm no writer, in fact, I ain't got no books :oneeyedwinK so it is hard to explain why I find it so unique and intriguing, but I will try. As I have said before, the casting of this show is simply magical. The actors who were selected to play the parts almost seem like they were born to play them. Like Millennium was some kind of destiny for them, starting with Frank Black, of course, but I also can't picture a Peter Watts, other then Terry O'quin, or a Lara Means, other than Kristen Cloke, a different Lucy Butler than Sarah-Jane Redmond, and right on down the line. The same goes for the guest actors.

Then, you have the brilliant writing, that in my opinion is second to none. I can't think of a show that has ever covered the subject matter that this show has, and I can't think of any show that has ever been this intelligent and even challenging and perplexing to it's viewers at times. Some of the meaning of the episodes can be pondered for hours, and you still don't know for sure if you get it, but when you consider the caliber of the writers, you know that there has to be something there that you have yet to grasp.

Also, there is the shows excellent visual quality. So many of the episode, such as Luminary and Antipas, just to name a couple that pop into my head are simply a joy to view for their beauty and masterful filming, in addition to the unique, original, and compelling story lines.

That leads me to another quality that draws me to the show, and that is the originality. Many of the story ideas that were used have not even been touched by other writers. This could very well be the most original show that I have ever seen on television.

Then, of course, as mentioned, the show has that dark, gloomy, realness to it, and what is more fascinating then delving into the darkness of the human mind and contemplating evil, and what evil is? I can't think of a more fascinating theme than that of Millennium, and like its sister show X-files, it often explores the supernatural, with the most obvious example being Frank's "gift", but also such fascinating ideas as remote viewing, etc. In addition, what topic is more fascinating and thought provoking then the end of the world or civilization as we know it? Throw in some science, mythology, astrology, Cloak and dagger, religion and all of the other topics this show touches on, and you have what is, in my humble opinion, about the best show that has ever been on TV.

I am drawn to the evil vs. good themes in the show. Frank almost starts to get that what he is dealing with is real "evil", but then the whole "the group is the bad guy" stuff took over.

Which got amped up even more in season three. I didn't necessarily mind the ambiguous nature of the group in season two, but given that Carter retook the reins in three, that he decided (yes, I know Chip Johannessen was there too, I should mention him as well) to continue along that path was surprising. At the end of two, I expected (if anyone survived the virus!) a return to that good vs. evil deal. I looked at it like the group wanted the world cleansed, in some twisted way, then go from there.

At least it appears that Peter redeemed himself at the end of the day.

My answer is very simple. This show scared me. I'm a big fan of horror movies and shows with creepy surprise endings. It's very difficult to scare someone with a movie, and even more difficult to do so within the constraints of TV. Millennium was able to do this for me. That was, and still is the biggest draw for me. It's amazing they were even allowed to air some of the episodes.

That was a fine post by Millenniumisbliss on the uniqueness of MillenniuM. I have a couple of things to add to that list.

Millennium's technology was top notch for it's day and was completely amazing and what I would definately call "pioneering". I loved that whole voice activated internet. That was awesome. Some of the stuff Frank could do on the computer as well as with his gift, was wild. Everytime I watch I see something different and everytime I fall more in love with the show.

Why is it unique and compelling? well, the characters are real and you care about them a great deal, it grabs you and pulls you in. also, it deals with end of the world, possibilities of the coming apocalypse, as well as the exploration of the darkness of the human mind and the human heart, not to sound cliched, but it's a great exploration of the evil that lurks in the hearts of men, and how one man hopes to make a difference, and how he struggles to shine the light against the overwhelming darkness.
