Elders (Admins) The Old Man Posted March 29, 2005 Elders (Admins) Share Posted March 29, 2005 He doesn't use one! Except in Flashbacks during The Thin White Line. However, where did he get the gun he pulled on the the 2 spys outside his house in Roosters, or was it Owls?

Guest SouthernCelt
The one he used against the two "spies" was a semiauto if I remember correctly. I think he gave it up to the cops when they arrived. The one he provided to Catherine (and she used) at the end of S2 was a snub-nose .38.
Guest fledgling666
he had a small semi-auto in season one that he loaded into his bag when leaving to investigate a crime scene. he had what appeared to be a 1911 model .45 when he confronted the spies in front of his rental house in season 2. and the .38 snubnose. he didn't often use a gun, but he seemed to often have one on him or nearby just in case. smart man. for both actions. Elders (Admins) The Old Man Posted March 30, 2005 Elders (Admins) Share Posted March 30, 2005 This is quite an interesting thread, its certainly made me consider this quite a lot! of course, yes he did keep a gun in his filing cabinet, in fact Catherine was trying to get to it in Lamentation. I seemed convinced I had read or seen somewhere that he refused to carry one. In which episode did he pack one in his baggage?
Elders (Moderators) Libby Posted March 30, 2005 Elders (Moderators) Share Posted March 30, 2005 He packed a gun in the Season 3 episode TEOTWAWKI. When there was the shoot-out towards the end of the episode, he didn't have his gun and relied on Hollis who was armed. She phones him at the end to ask about filling in all the paperwork that's involved when an agent uses a firearm and that's when he tells her he didn't have it with him and he was relying on his experience and her. There was a lot of gun activity in that episode. At the very beginning, Frank's in the FBI gun range doing his mandatory practice. Very tight grouping of bullet holes in the target. This is from the script (not the transcript): At the firing range, the gun is specified as a Colt .45 and in the description of the scene is: "Then he looks down at the weapon [...]. His hatred of this implement not unreadable in his eyes, his expression." Later, when Frank's packing his bag, the script has: "Frank then moves to a locked bureau, unlocks it, and lifts the weapon that he was firing earlier up into frame. He looks at it for a moment, then steps over and places it in the suitcase. Frank doesn't like this gun, but rules are rules." This was a Chris Carter script, but I can't really tell if all this means that Frank just doesn't like guns at all, or just this particular type. Of course, this is a season 3 episode and as Frank was back in the FBI by then, I suppose one of the rules is that he has to have a gun, and what type. Guest ModernDayMoriarty
In Season One, Frank uses a snub-nosed revolver. It is the archetypal 'private eye' weapon being easy to conceal and draw in emergencies - more of a gun to be used by people who don't want to have to use one regularly; there 'just in case'. It is indicative of Frank's character and also is reinforced by his further placement of it in a drawer at home. It seems very much a 'home defence' weapon. It is presumably a relic from when Frank was in the PD or the FBI. 'The Thin White Line' shows other FBI agents using a similar looking gun and it is this gun which Frank uses to apprehend Hance. It may to place the episode chronologically as well - it may have been the standard issue for the FBI in earlier times before semi-autos became so popular. I'm not sure about this - anyone know what the FBI was handing out about 10+ years ago? In Season Two, Frank's gun changes to a semi-auto. There could be many reasons for this but I suspect the fact that no reference is made to the change means that M+W simply thought it looked cooler (reference all the clothing changes of S2 and the change of house). It can be supported however as simply meaning Frank is more aggressive following Bob's death; that he feels he needs better protection etc. Note that in Frank's new house, the gun is much easier to reach (in a drawer near the window I think) than in the basement at the back of a filing cabinet. This may seem a small point but MLM is a meticulous show. Point out any small detail and there will be a very good reason for it. It wasn't this great by accident! hippyroo
Keeping a gun in a file cabinet in the basement isn't much protection for the family. If I went through 1/10th of what that family went through I'd want a nice shotgun right next to the bed. Wait.... what good would a shotgun do against the evil they faced?
