Hey everyone!

This is my second post here, so be gentle if this has been brought up before! :fool:

Since we are all here talking about our fav TV show on a message board on the net, I thought i'd ask a question that struck me the other day!

The internet and chatrooms are mentioned many times in regards to victims of murders, conspiracies etc on the show... do you ever feel like you're one of those people thats talked about??

I dont mean that we are all sex fiends or twisted, just that if the police was to investigate you or something, we'd end up having those kind of investigations where we'd spend a lot of time on the net and all our posts would be read etc. does that make any sense??

Anyway let em know what you think!

The way i look at this message board is that we are all super-fans of MM....Lance and everything that falls between. I think we all learn from one another. I myself work for the State of Missouri for the Divison of Youth Services thats a branch from Social Services. I deal with juvenile offenders through treatment. My knowledge covers everything to drugs and dealing with bad behavior.

To answer your question no i dont feel like one of those people. When i was in college i did an internship in Parole probation in the sex offenders unit. I feel i have the knowledge to deal why the way they are and to educate everyone else i can. I am here because i am on a misson

I had to start over, being the freakin perfectionist i am, i did not like what i had previous posted, so i begin the journey again, only this time i shall wait for the peyote to take effect...IN THE MEANTIME....

Welcome to TIWWA...what you will find here is a cool drink of water on a hot day, shade for you soul on those days that just dont seem to make sense...We are here because of one thing, our communal love of MillenniuM. We still disagree about certain things, like who is actually in the photo taken off the wall in the episode "A Room With no View", which by the way Cigar Burn is Theresa Roe, so say it with me again, "the girl in the picture is Theresa Roe"...you are getting sleepier and sleepier...

But you will not find a more caring and sharp community of friends anywhere on the net...

with that being said...i can only speak for myself. Should law enforcement come knocking at my door, i try to live my life like the old Will Rogers quote..."Live you life as such, so that when you die, you will not be ashamed to give your talking parrot to the town gossip".

Unless you believe in a grand conspiracy, investigations dont generally begin without there being an explicit reason.

I personally do not nor have i ever frequented a chat room. I find them to be distasteful, full of pimply faced kids filled with raging hormones and a healthy dose of narcism. The episode "The Mikado" is a must see on this subject, especially when Roedecker tells Peter and Frank he has changed everything, including gender, about himself to appear as someone completely different..the very essence of many a chat room...

So i guess the answer to your question is the same as Joe M...no i do not feel like i am one of those who are talked about, cemented by the fact that i dont give anyone a chance, because i do not drop my anchor in such waters...TIWWA is different. There is an incredible energy here, in addition to an extremely wide variety of knowledge and opinion. It is what it is, a message board. I believe there is a live chat somewhere, but i dont know if it is even operational or if it is, how popular it is...This is perfect for me. This message board gives us all time to formulate our thoughts without the pressure of having to come up with something "Johnny on the spot" which can lend itself to tinges of anger, frustration, etc, where words can be arbitrarily tossed around without due process. Many chat rooms i have monitored have deteriorated into vicious name calling, etc..and thats just not Who I Am..

Hope this helps....

Till the Last Change...Be Done..

Kudos~Fourth Horsman, for a great answer~I have to agree with what you said. From my perspective, I try not to make myself an attractive "victim"....but I think I'm more vulnerable than the men of this board-only because of my gender. That being said, as discussed in another forum about internet safety, I try not to give out too much personal info. As also stated, I have lots of animals that would throw people off-including my newest family member~a Lactrodectus mactans~more commonly known as the Black Widow. And I'm not afraid to use her!! Hehe

first off, welcome aboard, hope you enjoy the show and enjoy the forums, this is a great site for people who admired the show when it was on and still wish it were part of prime time although im sure almost all of us have the series on dvd..lol, anyway, ref your chat room inquries, i work in law enforcement and the number of harassment and threat calls via email and chat rooms has skyrocketed in the last few years. some of the ones i have personally read that have been sent to people are downright crude, most are just scary and very vulgar in nature, 99% of the reports are from females who either frequent singles chat rooms or use online dating services to meet people in their area. sadly enough i have also taken numerous assault and battery reports from women who have chosen to meet people based on internet identities and trumped up information the suspect has provided in order to try and arrange a date with the victim. a word of warning, there is no law against lying on the internet, people can say,do, act, write, read, speak, type, or use any other medium to try and persuade, sell, convince or seduce any one else on the internet. im surprised there is not more violent internet related crime than there is, mostly its just identity theft but you would be amazed at the people who cant believe they were assaulted or battered by the prince charming they met on the internet. use your common sense, i sometimes get the satisfaction of helping bringing these people before the courts but all too often these crimes are never reported or the victim just feels like it was their fault in the first place., anyway, im rambling, ask fourhorsemen, he will tell you im bad about that so welcome aboard again.Gunslinger

I've watched too much conspiracy TV. When I hear that a someone was found to have child porn on his or her (it's always his, right) computer; I wonder if the "state" planted stuff on the computer to get this person for some other reason. Is that wacko or what? Also, sometimes when I read or hear about a small massacre I wonder if there is more to the story than "it must have been drug related".

Don't' get me wrong. I know that porn and child porn are huge profit makers on the net and that many homicides are drug related. But sometimes my mind wonders to TV plots where the good guys turn out to be very deceptively the really bad guys.

Is there anyway to prove that stuff was put on a computer after a certain date?

On another note, I really thought it was very clever how the BTK killer was located by the ID marker on the CD he mailed to the police.

I have to agree with the first 2 answers to your question. I'm not your normal internet junkie. In fact, TIWWA was the very FIRST thing I found on the net! When I 1st got on-line in 2003, Millennium was the first search I did, and TIWWA was the 2nd thing I found.... (MDUK being the 1st). Other than trying to help a friend to sell his house, and the eBay store I'll be opening for him soon....There's very little I do on-line. I don't like chat rooms either. I find them rather boring and shallow.

hippyroo...you bring up a very interesting point. I do know that the more salicious sites one visits, obviously the greater potential for problems. Yes, unlawful material CAN be placed on you pc without your knowledge. At present i forgot the actual term used, but it begins with a visit to a questionable site. The host ip, if they have the knowledge, can then dump their illegal material onto your hard drive without your knowledge. Damned if i know the term, its right on the tip of my tounge. Thats why friends who are far more pc literate than i suggest checking your hard drive space every once in a while, to make sure material is not being stored in proxy. They also suggest the use of a well known virus scan with frequent .dat file updates...adaware 6.0 and spybot are also helpful agents...

just remember, there are a lot of nefarious things that can happen when you are on the net. One of my closest friends, who now works for Dell Computers, used to be both a hacker and a wizard at reverse-engineering. He told me that the ONLY time a person is safe on the computer is when it is turned off...

it is sort of like exposing an open cut to the sewer on the net, no?

I never thought of sites dumping illegal stuff on my drive, but I guess they could store it there for others to get to, hu? wow

Yes, my nephew works for sun microsystems and is in total shock that anyone would bank over the net

One of those people eh?

I certainly don't consider myself to be but I confess to hearing a bizarre urban myth many moons ago that the MI5 keep a secret record of library users who borrowed certain material from their shelves, I felt the cold finger of dread as I read the list of 'smoking books' as not only had I borrowed them but bought them as well. Nothing on the list was salacious or tantamount to treason, it was all philosophy, urban mythology, politics etc. but even though I felt it was perfectly acceptable 'more tea vicar?' material there is still a stigma attached to explorative, unconventional thinkers.

I also admit to be slightly 'crap' with the Internet (I use those sites designed for children when it comes to basic web advice - I can't follow the others and the pictures are prettier), I don't understand firewalls and the like, it was Casio calculators that revolutionised my schooling (and the buttons on them were bloody huge) so I do fear things like P2P programmes and torrents and the like. I stay well away hiding in my ignorance but better safe than sorry if you are the type, like me, that types with one finger (and sounds out the letters at the same time.)

*

Chat-rooms scare me witless, as Scully said 'The truth is out there, but so are the lies.' how can you possibly know, who, or what you are talking to?

I do agree with the points made, this message board is different in many ways to others I have had the displeasure to join. There is a caring, sharing ambience here because there is a profound and mutual love for the subject matter. I do not feel afraid to make errors, to write a post that no-one reads or likes or to say something strongly against the grain. Most boards operate a covert policy of 'this is who we like' this board operates a policy of 'this is who we are' - it doesn't feel like a popularity contest just a frank and accepting environment where we are what we are.

That said: I'm off to my letters from Dahmer, torture sparrows and wear my Mother's frocks, it's all go isn't it?

Till then,
