John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness

This is my favorite John carpenter movie.   It is a milleniumistic movie.   There is talk about the Anti-God trying to come back, a person being possessed by Satan- the son of the Anti-God.  people getting tachyon transmissions from the year 2000 in their dreams.    there is even talk about Jesus being an alien.    This movie has lots of ideas and it is a very frightening movie.    Some people like the movie while others think the movie just sucks.    And did I forget the homeless people turning into zombies bit?   yes, I did.   If yuou haven't seen this movie, go rent it.    Have a better one.

I had forgotten about this one!  I definitely agree that it has a millenniumistic quality about it for all the reasons you mentioned.  I would also emphasize the "wierd science" aspect of this film... time travel to the millennium and apocalypse through the Anti-God's evil portal, etc.  Also, as you mentioned the transmissions from the future to peoples dreams... very wierd science and millenniumistic.  And the whole God/Anti-God thing had a sort of physics/sci fi ring to it, like matter/anti-matter.  I could totally see stuff like this being played out in an episode of MLM.

The most memorable parts of the time for me were the those dream visions/transmissions from the future.  They were both compelling and chilling at the same time.

Those who love accidental campiness... a la things like the homeless zombies... will like this film.

I will have to rent it some time.  I saw it like 13 years ago or something.  You got a copy you could lend me, Dave?

Cheers,

Scott

I have the movie taped, but it is on the same tape with three episodes of Harsh Realm and the pilot of Brimstone (and some other odds and ends).    This movie is easy to rent on VHS.   I can easily rent it for 99 cents for 5 days if I wanted, but this is one I want for DVD (and I think it is on DVD).  So Scott, I think if you have a good local video store with General Titles for 99 cents, it might be easier for you to rent it than for me to borrow it out to you.    Have a better one.
