Guest ZeusFaber Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 An old question, but an enduring one.
Guest lonegungrrly1121 Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 season 8. Just love it all. doggett was wonderful, and the stand alone episodes were really cool... the only thing I would have changed about it would be that Mulder should have stayed dead and scully shouldn't have had the meepmork baby... aside from that, It was a very good season
Guest Frank L. Posted October 1, 2005 Posted October 1, 2005 This is a question I just cannot give a simple answer to. I love every season of The X-Files, with season 9 being the least good. But the best? I can't say... Season 1: everything is fresh and new. Great stories. Season 2: expanding show. More ideas. Abduction trilogy. Season 3: more mythology, bigger budget. Season 4: probably the XF darkest season, with Scully's cancer, and just brilliant episodes. Season 5: some of the best episodes ever made on TXF, and probably the funniest (Bad Blood) Season 6: different location, still great, more comedy, which I didn't really like Season 7: weird season, still brilliant, Requiem, one of my favorites. Season 8: I love Doggett, this is one of my most favorite seasons. Season 9: stories are mostly average, but had a few great episodes (last three for example)
Guest betweenthelines Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 Season 5. It was visually beautiful, and it has a lot of my favorite episodes: 'Bad Blood', 'Chinga', 'All Souls', 'Post-Modern Prometheus', 'Folie a Deux'... yep, I enjoy the whole season (even 'Travelers' was tolerable).

I agree with what you say about season 1, and S1 gets my vote for the best. S1 was, as you say, fresh and new, and introduced us to the characters while creating new characters throughout. S1 was just so unique, creative, fresh and brilliantly written that it remains the best year for me. The show stayed at a high level for several years, but as I have mentioned before, they started to get into some stories that I did not care for, and from what I remember, this started at least a couple of years in. I really preferred the stand alone episodes where they explore a new paranormal or strange event with each episode, but they started to lose me with stuff like black oil and mutants with no mouth or eyes and the super soldiers, and the cloning etc etc. Therefore, I think this show peaked early, remained near its peak for a good 5 years or so, and then started to fall off a bit. To me, the fall off started to accelerate as Scully and Mulder became less involved and, although I don't dislike Doggett and Reyes, I found these years to be my least favorite. The show did pretty much stayed great throughout its long run, but my order of favorite seasons probably goes in the same order as the years they came out. S1 the best, and S9 my least favorite.
Guest gmcp Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 Season Five. Redux and Redux II are enough to have me cast a vote for 5. My favorite episodes of any TV series, ever. (The Gethsemane lead in was excellent as well.)
Guest Idea Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 (edited) Aah... X-Files. The best serie in the world (plz, don't kill me!) I have seen whole seasons 1-5. I have also seen seasons 6-7 mythology episodes. I haven't seen seasons 8-9. My absolute favourite season is season two. Series mythology are at the best, new interesting characters are introduced, MOTW-episodes are very innovative and last - but not weakest - the serie has some true continuity. I really respect that property (whick is too rare in X-Files and many other series). My favourite episodes on Season 2 are Little Green Man, Sleepless, Duane Barry, Ascension, One Breath, Aubrey (whick include famous Terry O'Quinn <3 ), Død Kalm, F.Emasculata and Anasazi. Greetings, I love your Avatar, such a great character from one of my top 5 all time favorite shows. I always thought that was hilarious how they worked coffee, donuts and cherry pie into the stories so well. Oh, and for those who don't know, I am referring to Twin Peaks. As for X-files, I agree, it was a great show. Of course, I have to rate our very own Millennium number one, but the X-files is a close second. I have seen all of the episodes, but my viewing of the reruns range from watching all of the episodes of the first several seasons, about a dozen or more times each, to only watching many season 8 and 9 episodes once or twice. I would need to do some serious contemplating to try to determine what my favorite X-files season is, but I agree, season two is way up there, and it contains my all time favorite episode, "One Breath".

I must agree with you. "One Breath" is X-Files at best! It's my favourite episode, and will always be. It contains all features, which makes X-Files what it is. Mulder doing everything for Scully's life, pursuit at the hospital, CSM and Mulder first real encounter and discussion about the truth... So great! Edited April 6, 2007 by Idea

So great! Yes, many of the great highlights of season two, and the series for that matter, are condensed in one of the greatest hours of entertainment ever to grace the TV screen. In fact, I really can't think of a better episode of anything, although there are some Millennium episodes, as well as some other X-Files episodes that are in the running. One Breath really runs the gambit. It has action, drama, brilliant dialogue, and even a few scenes that will make you tear up if you aren't careful. Oh, and I would be remiss if I didn't mention that it also has Melinda McGraw (Scully's sister).
