I picked up S3 for the great mythology, open and often edgy, and for the kind of relationship I liked for M/S. I hesitated with S2 for the mythology, too. Yet I think one of my very fave episode is in S4, with Tempus Fugit.

Ahh, nice choice. I'm not positive, but I think I finally decided on season 3 as my favorite as well in a previous thread. It had a great blend of classic stand alone episodes and some of the very best "light" or funny episodes. This was definitely X-files in its prime.
