some of these are not overly serious....

S3 finale when Frank and Jordan leave

Nick Drake - Road

PJ Harvey - Big Exit

Eels - All in a day's work

I suppose this one could be anythin to do with the upcoming MM....Eels - Numbered Days

And Tori Amos' Past the Mission is probably quite apt for any serial killer episode

Tell me there's a heaven.

Chris Rea

I get a lump in my throat EVERY time, in fact there have been periods where I just couldn't listen to that song.

Hmm, very interesting topic idea. I have thought of songs that would have fit in Millenium many times. A few are...

"The Sound of Silence" by Simon and Garfunkel

"The Stranger" by Billy Joel

"Silent Running" by Mike + The Mechanics

"Self Control" by Laura Branigan

tom waites: the earth died screaming, dust, black wings, georgia lee, etc.

-------------------------

helmet: speechless-

Indecisive and deaf or dumb

Tongue-dried in the sun

Nervous speech and your mental health

Drunk on every detail

Loosened up from the moral slide as though

There's nothing to hide

It corresponds with your secret view and

Never weighs upon you

I'd blame someone but I've got you

Like everyday that bores me

Sleep fine at night and

Wake up to my early speechless morning

It works like crime, adjust your view

Waste your time improving

She's cut so well and lifelike too

You'll bleed to death before me

-----------------------------------------------

godflesh: go spread your wings

Good to see that Live, Blue Oyster Cult & Megadeth have already been mentioned here. I often thought that Purcell's 'Funeral Music for Queen Mary' (also used in 'Clockwork Orange') would have been an awesome theme tune to 'Millennium' - and then I heard it, in a later episode! Spook!! ('Curse of Frank Black', if I remember right...?)

I'd probably also add:

'Behind Blue Eyes' - The Who - one of their darkest, most intense songs. Could fit any episode concerning 'the bad man, the sad man'... (This can't be the very limp Limp Bizkit version - the part they miss out is the part of the orginal that really makes the song for me!)

Probably just about anything from Danzig's 'Lucifuge' album. Especially 'Long Way Back From Hell', 'Pain in the World' and '777'.

Patti Smith's 'Gloria: In excelsis Deo' - more rampaging stream-of-thought imagery in the style of 'Horses'. Perfect for any religious-themed episode - how can anyone deny the power of the opening line 'Jesus died for somebody's sins, but not mine' ?
