Elders (Admins) The Old Man Posted June 17, 2003 Elders (Admins) Share Posted June 17, 2003 I could have sworn this movie had been discussed some time ago but I couldn't see a topic in this Forum about it. Last week (thanks to a very generous friend) I was fortunate enough to view The Mothman Prophecies. I wanted to recommend it to all Millennium fans as it's very 'Millenniumesque' and dark in setting and appearance. Several times I was reminded of scenes or shots in Millennium. It also screws with your mind in a big way! Don't let the fact that Richard Gere stars in this movie put you off! I lent it to friend at the weekend and he said the same thing as me, Gere excelled himself in this role. It's a great movie if you like the dark drearyness of Millennium. If you haven't seen it yet, go rent it. You won't be dissapointed. Graham.
Guest Wellington
Hi I totally agree! There is quite a good feeling about this film, however it seems like it had been underrated. The closeness to MM is very strong, up to the choice of the landscapes, night scenes and the dealing with town scenes. I mean that here a town is not that important in itself: there is no real purpose in it, a desperate anonymity that lets you realise you do not care where it is, for it could be in the neighbourhood. Richard Gere made a good job, not playing the eternal innocent good guy. The way he acted his love for his wife, and the way he would die instead of letting her go from his mind rang a bell in me, for I cannot even imagine losing mine in such a way. Despite strong fantastic elements, it was never over the top: efficient direction and sense of urgence when needed, but no flashy FX. And I was glad it did not pounded on an "urban legend" theme that would have destroyed all the eery feeling about the plot! I would have loved to hear a Frank monologue at times: he would have fit as a background character quite well! Nice reminder, Old Man! Guest Justa Fan
Good and Creepy!! Did you notice how well the music was mixed? Sort of had an X-Files/Millennium smack to it. This film had a very short first run in theaters. Was your copy the first issue DVD or the extended version? I haven't seen the extended version. And by the way, West Virginia really does look like that!

For me, this one is in very select company, and is one of those rare films that I would give a 10 out of 10. If you are a fan of all thing Millenniumistic and have not seen this, I recommend making it the next movie you rent. I predict that it will be the best film you have seen this year.... or close. Raven Wolf
Yes, I remember that, back when I still had cable, we thought it worthy enough to pay for one of those PayPerView channels so I could see it!

I was lucky enough to catch it at the theater. Upon seeing the previews, I knew it would be something I would really like, but it surpassed my expectations. This movie is so underrated and underexposed that it's a crime. I loaned my DVD to my brother, but for some reason he hasn't watched it. I bet he will be pleasantly surprised if he ever gets around to it.

Actually, I have been having a lot of fun and resurrecting old posts from other people about Millenniumistic movies. It's funny how all of my favorites keep popping up. There are also a bunch that I have not seen yet, so I will have to refer back to this thread if I am ever in need of any recommendations. By the way, Mothman is a great one to drag out of the closet.
