Guest LauraKrycek
Okay, so this show wasn't too Millenniumistic as far as themes go, but it was pretty good. Granted, I've seen but one episode of it ("Blood Will Out"), but I really liked it. On my last weekend in England, I spent a night at a beautiful little guest house in St. Austell, Cornwall. Before going to bed, I decided to watch a little television (my everyday residence did not have a television, so this was a rare treat), and I watched an episode of "Midsomer Murders", starring John Nettles and Daniel Casey. I really enjoyed it! It's about a couple of police detectives in a fairly small town solving all these murder mysteries. It's apparently based on a series of books, which I'm going to be looking out for. What I was most taken with that made me originally decide to stay tuned to the show (the quality of the programming is what kept me glued to it) is that John Nettles is very Lance-ish! The little expressions he makes, the way he moves his eyebrows... it was so totally Lance. His character is married with a daughter. He even delivers his funny lines (and there were quite a few that made me laugh right out loud) with that dry, sarcastic air. For instance, in this episode, his wife wants him to go to this upscale clothing store to buy a new suit (he is very put out by this because, as he states a few times, he usually just buys all of his clothes from Marks and Spencer, and they have always served him well -- John Nettles was in a recent Marks and Spencer catalogue as a model). They don't have pants that are large enough for him, so his wife puts him on this diet, which his partner has been instructed to help keep him on. Each day is a different food, so one day he is handed a bag, he looks in it, and says flatly, "Oh good. It's banana day." When it's time for apples, his partner says, "Lunch, sir", and hands him a bowl of apple slices; "I've cut up the apples to make them look like chips!" Okay, okay, enough of that. If you live in the UK and haven't seen this show, I suggest that you check it out. If you live in the US, well, I've heard that A&E has purchased the rights for all episodes and shows some every now and again, but I haven't yet been able to find a time for any of them -- could be just an every-once-in-a-while kind of thing. I certainly hope to see more of it!
Bardo Thodol
I will definitely look for it on A&E and give it a glance. I always love to find Frank/Lance-istic characters in shows and film. Will be fun to anticipate.
Guest MSandt
I love that show I have been watching it since the first episode and it's quite popular here in Finland. Yeah I remember that episode which you mentioned but I have never noticed anything Lance-ish in Nettles. That village must have world's highest crime rates. Every week about three more bodies. Elders (Admins) The Old Man Posted August 7, 2003 Elders (Admins) Share Posted August 7, 2003 Laura, I'm so chuffed that you saw this program. It's my favourite TV show at the moment. I love it completely. The main things with it is the gorgoeus towns and villages in the fictitious County of Midsomer. The Country style pubs and thatched roofs. I'm really glad you liked it but I have to tell that teh ep you saw is miles away from some of the best episodes... I hope it comes out on DVD soon for you all to enjoy... God I love that eerie music... I tried to get Dave into this program some time ago but he never bit... Gra.
