Hi guys,

I tend to think of Lance Henriksen as something of a genre luminary, his place in the Horror Hall of Fame seems to confirm the popular notion that he has had a career mainly dominated by genre roles and though that seems to be the case of late he has a fairly balanced career when you take it as a whole. It seems, from the following article, that Glenn Morshower (of Millennium's Season Two) might be just the man to give Lance, and other potentials such as Alan Dale, a run for their money with regards to the crown for the title of King Of Cult.

Glenn who? The name might be far from familiar, but the face should ring a few bells for fans of cult television. Best known for playing the quiet and dependable Agent Aaron Pierce in every day of 24, Morshower has racked up a mightily impressive list of credits that give a certain Alan Dale a run for his money. Thanks to Cult Spy reader Siobhan Byron for alerting us to his magnificent track record. Could we have found the true King of Cult? Dale's crown is not looking so safe...

Quantum Leap - Grady

Morshower's first foray into the realms of cult came alongside Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell in the legendary time-hopping show. He popped up in a supporting role during the 1991 fourth season episode 'Justice', in which Bakula's Sam leapt into the body of a Ku Kulux Klan member - with his mission to save the life of a civil rights worker.

Star Trek: The Next Generation - Ensign Burke/Orton

In his more follicle-friendly days, as shown by the image, Morshower appeared in the 1989 TNG episode 'Peak Performance' as Ensign Burke – a junior tactical officer assigned to the USS Enterprise-D for a war games exercise that turned into a very real Ferengi attack. The actor resurfaced on the show in another guise four years later in the sixth season episode 'Starship Mine' – as the prosthetically enhanced terrorist leader Administrator Orton, who plotted to steal trilithium from the Enterprise.

Babylon 5 - Franke

A minor role in the second season story 'Acts Of Sacrifice', which dwelled on the conflict between the Narn and Centauri, helped Morshower tick off another sci-fi franchise.

Alien Nation: Body and Soul

An uncredited role in this 1995 TV movie ensued, following on from the early '90s sci-fi series made by V creator Kenneth Johnson.

Star Trek: Voyager - Guard

A return to the Star Trek franchise saw Morshower play a Mokra guard that was seduced by Captain Janeaway, lured away from his post, and knocked out by Caylem.

Dark Skies - Mission Commander

In the third ever episode of this short-lived X-Files knock-off in 1996, he played the head of a manned space launch – which those naughty aliens were planning to sabotage.

The X-Files - Aaron Starkey

After Dark Skies, Morshower soon found himself part of the real deal in the shark-jumping fifth season of the investigative series. In the episode 'All Souls', which dealt with religious themes and revolved around a threat to handicapped girls in a town, he played a social worker hiding a dark secret.

Millenium - Richard Gilbert

In two 1998 episodes of Chris Carter's series, Morshower starred as a former FBI Agent who tried to entice Lance Henriksen's profiler Frank into joining a corporate security organisation called The Trust. Ultimately, Richard Gilbert had a very fiery demise when his car brakes let him down.

First Wave - Sheriff John

This Sci Fi Channel series was about a species of aliens called the Gua conducting experiments on humans, and Morshower played an alien Sheriff who laid down his life in order to halt some planned experiments by his own people. Playing characters with a strong moral core would become a regular occurrence in his career.

Strange World - Colonel Gerald Kanin

Four appearances between 1999 and 2002 in this creepy science-orientated show from X Files executive producer Howard Gordon helped pay the bills.

24 - Aaron Pierce

His defining role came as the quiet but hard-as-nails government agent assigned to protect David Palmer. He has appeared in all seven seasons of the hit show, risking his life to protect the country and even finding time for a spot of romance with disgraced President Charles Logan's missus. In Day Seven, Pierce reinforced his crowdpleasing credentials by trapping Allison Taylor's scheming daughter and making her see the error of her ways. Let's hope he's back for Day Eight!

Buffy The Vampire Slayer - Mr Newton

In the seventh season tale 'Help', Buffy's new role as a school counsellor saw her visit the father of morbid student Cassie Newton – and grill her father (Morshower) about her suspicions that he gets drunk and beats her. It proved to be a false accusation.

Alias - Marlon Bell

As Department of Justice Director Marlon Bell, he starred in two third season episodes of the J.J. Abrams show. Significantly, he signed the pardon agreement that allowed the devious Arvin Sloane freedom after his time behind bars.

Enterprise - MacReady

Another turn as a sheriff lured Morshower back to the Star Trek franchise and reunited him with Quantum Leap's Scott Bakula. In the episode 'North Star', Macready was a human sheriff on a Skagaran planet who tried hard to prevent the indigenous population from threatening the interests of the human settlers.

Charmed - Agent Keyes

Another governmental role followed, as Morshower played a Homeland Security agent who kept an eye on the magical activities of the Halliwell sisters in two later episodes of the show.

Bones - Colonel Bob Reid

The 2007 episode 'Spaceman In A Crater' revolved around the suspicious death of an astronaut who plunged to Earth, with Morshower going all militarial as one of the insiders who sought to keep the truth away from Bones and her team.

The 4400 - The General

Anyone thinking that the poor guy had become seriously typecast wouldn't have rejoiced in his role as a general in charge of some super soldiers in the fourth season episode 'Til We Have Built Jerusalem'.

Dollhouse - Sheriff Rand

ANOTHER sheriff!! Can't someone cast Mr Morshower as a drag queen or plumber? In the second season episode 'Meet Jane Doe', he played Sheriff Rand – a dodgy law enforcer who doesn't treat the inmates very well and recognises Echo from one of her previous missions when she stole some items from a convenience store. It's up to Ballard to ensure Rand keeps quiet.

One of the few surviving 24 characters! Though he wasn't in all 7 seasons of 24 as the article says.

He was also in the Transformers movie! Aaron Pierce rocks

Well the IMDb must have false information and people's memories are playing tricks on them. It has on the IMDb that Glenn Morshower appeared in at least one episode of "24" for Days 1-7. And before reading your post I was sure I had seen his character appear in every season and knew that he was the only person in the cast of "24" as well as Kiefer Sutherland to have been in every season of "24".

*****

A few months ago I was switching between channels and caught Glenn Morshower in an episode of a the sadly one season only series Medical Investigation.

I find Alan Dale very annoying. If he thinks appearing in every US show there is (and I mean that in in the greatest sarcasm) will make people think he is this great, serious actor he must be joking! You can't forget his role of Jim Robinson in Neighbours! He very nearly ruined the ninth season X Files episodes he appeared in.
