There was an episode of the X-Files that can be considered a prequel. It was more of a flashback episode, where Mulder re-opened a case (pre X-files assignment) that was classified as an X-File. He visited the investigator, who told him about the particulars. Communism, conspiracy, etc. Described how the X-Files technically started.

Then it really could also be argued that "Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man" was also a prequel of sorts. Describes the project, the cover-ups, and the start of CSM.

So yeah, enough of that prequel nonsense :p

And I hope this damn movie gets made so these undying threads can stop :D

Ah, you forgot the episode '3' where it goes back to when he first met The Lone Gunmen... :nahah:

The movie will pick up four years after the 2002 TV finale that left Mulder and Dana Scully on the run from the FBI

Next year they'll be saying it picks up five years after the finale... and then six... and then seven...

Also, the Lone Gunmen episode was "Unusual Suspects", not "3", which was the (underrated and brilliant) vampire ep from season two.

Oddly enough, both of those prequel eps ("Travelers" and "Musings") had inconsistencies with the actual overall arc, although "Musings" was actually told through the completely speculative lens of Frohike, I think, which allowed for wiggle room in that area.
