Maybe this is a strange question. I was in the pub last friday (yesterday), having a drink after work and I started to chat with a friend, well, not a friend in the real sense of the word, but that's not important. Anyway, we spoke about this and that and somehow the conversation got into television and I told her that I have this fascination about a TV-show called MM, a show that was broadcasted in the late nineties. Turned out that she knew the series but it never interested her. So I told her about the boards here and the posts we make about the show and that I visit these boards at least 6 or 7 times a day. She was kind of amused and could not understand how I could be discussing a show that was cancelled about 7 years ago. I am an excentric freak according to her. She did not mean this in a negative way but it got me thinking somehow. So, what do you guys think? Are we excentric freaks?

To non-fans, we probably are considered eccentric; however, they may be just as eccentric about something else, another TV show, a movie, or whatever. All you can do is say, "Whatever floats your boat!" and move on to look for another 'eccentric' that agrees with you.

Maybe we are excentric freaks to some, but if you compare us to say, Trekies, who dress up and go to conventions and live their lives around a Star Trek, we suddenly look pretty normal. I think the board itself is pretty normal. It's how we conduct our personal lives that determines our freekyness. For example, if you have the Frank Black action figure and carry it around with you to parties and family gatherings and speak to it out loud, I think you probably fall into the freak category. If you enjoy watching the show and then coming here to discuss your thoughts about it, I think you are simply someone with good taste. It stands to reason that you would want to be among and talk to like minded people. When they come up with a new show that even comes close to MM, I will be glad to spend some time there as well, but in the mean time, I will continue to remain interested in what is still the greatest show ever on TV. Like Celt says, whatever floats your boat. :oneeyedwinK

Personally, I take the word eccentric as a compliment, but I have a suggestion for Moriarty. Take the young lady friend of yours to a late night viewing of "Rocky Horror Picture Show". When you emmerge from the viewing, and she has seen all of the people who know all of the lines by heart, the way people are dressed, the rice throwing, etc., you will probably seem like Ward Cleaver in comparison. :oneeyedwinK

OK Here are my thoughts:

Everyone is a little eccentric in one sense or another. I am not gonna mention the name of another member here but we once had a conversation about how our wives think we are nerds/geeks regarding our involvment here or when we watch it on DVD over and over again. Well my wife is a huge fan of Project Runway and will watch reruns of The West Wing. So my wife must be eccentric too. The eccentric doesnt offend me but at least we dont dress up like our fav. character i.e Star Wars. I have a feeling that not even Grahmn here would dress up like The Oldman or RavenWolf would walk around her house as Catherine. Nor would you find me driving Franks Car and wearing a Omega Watch.

Triumph The Insult Dog

So there is nothing wrong with being a MM Nerd. We here a TIWWA are one and a million fans. For the three years it was on air it was a one of a kind, ahead of its time.

I'd love to have Frank's red jeep

Nah, I think it's more than just a cult thing because of the issues the show generated. People tend to see just the serial killer aspect but the moral and philosophical questions behind many episodes is the draw for me.

I'm sure we're on a government 'watch' list somewhere, unless they happen to actually READ the discussions.

Exactly! I think that for many of us Millennium is not just a great tv show; it represents a certain way of looking at things, and maybe a certain way of thinking. Someone who knows nothing or just a little something about MM can't possibly understand a fan's passion and dedication for it.

JOE, that was way too funny, if not a bit vulgar.

I'm sure there are books written by really smart people about Internet socialization and it's effects on people. There are many people addicted to chat rooms, Internet shopping, Internet Porn and the like. Maybe she is transferring some of that to you?
