Seeing double is normal in Cândido Godói, Brazil, where the rate of twin births is nearly a thousand percent above the global average. One theory is that the Nazi doctor, Josef Mengele, may be behind the phenomenon.

This would make a superb episode of the X-Files although twins/clones may have been done to death already in XF and MM. Absolutely fascinating stuff. A friend of mine was a nurse in the Army some years ago and she was stationed with her husband in Germany for some time. She told me that Germany has such a low level of children born with birth defects and disabilities because the Nazi regime had largely eradicated the responsible genes from the populace by slaughtering the physically and mentally disabled during the war years. I can't vouch for the veracity of this story but she said that the nineties saw the first down syndrome children born for decades in Germany as the genes had finally to surface once again.
