I think I remember Joe posting something a while back about this episode, but I am currently going through the X-Files and just saw this episode... Man oh man..., I can't remember any other XF episode (off hand) that made me roll my eyes quite so much. I really liked the interplay between Mulder & Scully, and the further clarification of Skinner's character was good, and even the introduction of their 'friend at the FBI' was good, but the FLUKEMAN...

I gotta give them credit, they played it STRAIGHT as an arrow, but... I guess the tie in at the end with Chyrnobel (sp) did kind of add to it.

So, I've got the next 8 Seasons of the X-Files to get through and Netflix is just NOW sending me the 2nd Season of Carnivale AND the first 2 Seasons of MillenniuM. Needless to say, I THINK I'm gonna be rather busy for a while...

How many times have you seen the entire X-Files series? The day before yesterday I watched the season 4 finale 'Gethsemane' so I've now arrived at the fifth season for the... time. I've lost count. :smokin:

Ah, the best trio of episodes of any series, ever. Gethsemane, Redux, and Redux II. Doesn't get better than that.

I've only knocked down the entire series once, but I've rewatched the mythology twice.

Flukeman is a rather interesting episode..... In the early years they must have had some interesting looks from costume designers.

Yes, Flukeman was actually a pretty good episode. I liked the sewer chief that Mulder worked with, although I'm sure he had a more technical title than sewer chief. :oneeyedwinK The story was fine, but as far as Flukeman, they should have had him in a much darker room when they showed him. Not convincing at all. They might as well have used a stuffed animal with strings coming from the ceiling to control his movements. I originally thought that, due to the initial low budget, they just borrowed an old alien from a 1950s sci fi movie..... or maybe the original "Lost In Space".

Did you know Darin Morgan played FLukeman

No way! Of course that would fit right in with his goofy characters

 Ewwww is right, sewer chef sounds like someone who would prepare cuisine for Flukeman. From what I have seen, I can't find the actor who played the character I referred to as sewer chief, unless they are calling him Russian engineer. He is the guy who explains the sewer system to Mulder.

Hmmm, let's see... I've probably watched all the episodes that I originally recorded (and still have, carefully catelogued, numbered, with the commercials removed, and transferred to BETA!!! :wtf:) probably about 3 times. And since I have ripped the series onto DVD, this is probably my 2nd time through...

Originally, I was SO pissed off by the 8th Season, that I didn't even watch the last 2 Seasons (remember my comment earler ) THEN, after a while I had read a lot about the last 2 Seasons, so I included them the 3rd time around with the videocassettes. And now, of course, I include them in watching the DVDs.

Some trivia about this episode:

The Foreman a.k.a. sewer chef (love that!) was played by Ron Sauve who appeared twice on MM (Tardot in Walkabout and Brunelli's Dad in Through a Glass).

The character of Charlie, who appears briefly in the same scene, was played by Don Mackay (Jack Meredith).

The John Doe that Scully autopsies has the number 101356, which is Chris Carter's birthdate.

The workman who gets grabbed by Flukie but survives is called Craig - the same as Chris Carter's brother.

In the "Making of Season 2" commentary on the DVD, Darin Morgan has this to say:

I remember when I'd gotten the script thinking, "Ok, how does a fluke, half-man, half-flukeworm, move?" And I wanted to come up with some kind of creepy movement like the Creature from the Black Lagoon has a very particular way of swimming. The minute you see him, you go, "Oh my god, it's the Creature from the Black Lagoon, we're all dead!" Once I got into the suit, I realized that was irrelevant because my mobility was limited to this: (makes very small robot-like body movements) "I am the Flukeman." That was the most I could move. The thing was incredibly heavy. I couldn't breathe, couldn't talk. There was no hole for me to urinate. Sex was completely out of the question. I decided to relieve myself when in the water because I figured Duchovny would never find out - he's never gonna watch these things.
