The World Health Organization says the disease, which has particularly affected children under five years old, is from the Ebola family. The symptoms, similar to Ebola, include vomiting, bloody discharge and fever.

Guest Noah
I'm going a little off-topic, but I've just read the first article about it in German media. And what strikes me, too, is that it's rarely being reported in the media. Three years ago, the few cases of the bird flu made the headlines and were all over the evening news. I wonder if Marburg was happening somewhere else, would we hear and more about it? If the bird flu had occured in Africa instead, would it have been such a great deal? Time and again, we have to realize: It's become the forgotten continent. And it's a shame that so many people care so little ...
Walkabout
sadly it seems to be all about who we are tied to financially and not just a human interest story. HIV was in Africa like 20 years or more before it hit the western world and yet few had ever heard of it before then...
4th Horseman
sadly it seems to be all about who we are tied to financially and not just a human interest story. HIV was in Africa like 20 years or more before it hit the western world and yet few had ever heard of it before then... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> International health officials said the epidemic, already the largest outbreak of Marburg virus ever recorded, showed no signs of abating. Seven of Angola's 18 provinces have now reported suspected cases and several neighboring countries have announced health alerts, thats COUNTRIES not COUNTIES.. How sad and true...but there has always been a sense of "i'm glad its them, and not us" mentality when it comes to such things. You are right, AIDS was circulating for quite some time before we even heard about it in the U.S. Now, we hear whispers of Ebola, Marburg, the H5N1 avian virus, etc, and yet there seems to be no sense of urgency. "Its happening over there" is a poor excuse for vigilance. All life is sacred, whether its on our soil or someone elses...the link below fully describes the virus, its qualites and lethalness... https://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvrd/spb/mnpages..._Fact_Sheet.pdf

Gunslinger
how sad.. sub saharha africa... .. will it ever improve? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> unfortunately sub saharan africa is a wonderful proving grounds for chemical and biological warfare, isolated tribes, natural suspicion of outsiders, almost no access to medical personnel or facilities, lots of people using same sources of food, drinking and bathing water....wonderful place to set up a observation post and document the horrific effects of a bio level 4 virus strain, not much chance of it spreading, no roads, no vehicles, and most importantly no media coverage, how many smaller outbreaks in places like kenya, zaire, ethiopia, do you suppose never get media coverage, this is how governments obtain their knowledge base of these terrible viruses, these viruses have been genetically mapped for years, is there any reason why they haven't been cured.....never know when you might need a doomsday virus.......this is who we are.
