Snow Files of the Week: "Midnight Arctic Walk/Walking To Shore" from the tv miniseries "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea" (1997), starring Michael Caine as Captain Nemo.

For this score, Mark used a small orchestra and combined it with some of his electronic stuff. The music again shows, that Mark can write quite some tune, even big and epic. Some of it reminds me from time to time of John Barry and his sweeping melodies.

The score was released on CD by Prometheus Records and is sold out, but you can still find some used copies.

Enjoy!

Snow Files of the Week: "M. Magdalene/Divine Daughter" from "MillenniuM", episode "Anamnesis" (1998).

This is one of the two episodes in the entire series, where Frank Black takes a step back and leaves the stage for his wife Catherine. She teams up with Lara Means to investigate the possibility that a schoolgirl experiencing visions may be biologically descended from Jesus Christ.
Mark's music fits the religious tone of the episode. There is a soft piano theme for the schoolgirl and etheral choir work to accompany her visions. Also, the sampled flute sound from the episode "Luminary" returns in this score.

The tracks are taken from the second volume of MillenniuM music from La-La Land Records. The set is limited to 2.000 copies.

Enjoy!

One of my favorite episodes, and Catherine has always been my favorite character.  Luminary is another favorite episode.

Catherine truly is "practical, down to earth," with a huge, caring heart, and why she became a Clinical Social Worker.  She never denied the spirit realm nor all that can happen in it and from it, but understood the need to live in the here and now, something we can have some control of.  Her famous quote does say it all, "I can handle imposition, Frank.  What I can't handle is secrecy.  We're raising a daughter, Frank.  The real world starts to seep in.  You can't stop it."

Proud to be an owner of this album.

Thank you again Alex.  :23:

Snow Files of the Week: "Ending", from the IMAX feature "UFO - The Truth Is Here" (2001).

Mark's music for this IMAX movie assembles the mood and sounds of his early X-Files music. Dark, ambient drones and mystical soundscapes guide the listener into the world of the unknown.
The CD was only available at IMAX theatres in Sweden, where the movie was playing and is now a very hard to find collector's item.

Enjoy!

Snow Files of the Week: "Big Yellow House/Exterminated" from "MillenniuM", episode "Pilot" (1996).

When The X-Files went into its fourth season, Chris Carter's second show "MillenniuM" premiered. The first episode of "MillenniuM" gained the highest number of viewers FOX ever had for a pilot, the episode was even shown in selected theatres.

The home of the Black family, the big yellow house, is a place of safety for Frank Black. Here he can provide his family with a normal life and keep them away from the dark world outside, at least he thinks he can. If you watch the show closely you will notice, that all the scenes, that play in or around the yellow house, have a certain golden glow, while the scenes in the real world have washed out colours.

Mark uses the main theme from "MillenniuM" to create a haunting variation for the introduction of the yellow house. His soft and moody string pads, combined with the solo violin, create a place of peace, but also underlines the darkness waiting outside.

The tracks are taken from the first volume of music from "MillenniuM", released by La-La Land Records. It was released in 2008 and sold out shortly after. In 2015, the volume was re-issued, limited to 1.000 copies.

Enjoy!
