Elders (Admins) The Old Man Posted November 27, 2003 Elders (Admins) Share Posted November 27, 2003 TIWWA Members, This is a post to keep you up to date with some developments on the TIWWA front. After consultation with The Elder Team, I have been looking into the possible upgrade of our current Ikonboard. The owners of Ikonboard have failed to provide the much promised and long awaited version of a PHP based version of Ikonboard, which was codenamed Project Mongoose. In fact some time ago, the original designers and programming team moved to set up their own company and product which has been highly sucessful. The result is Invision Power Board https://www.invisionboard.com Having spent some time reviewing the current trends and suppliers of Message Board software and the requirements and future needs of our TIWWA community Members etc, I have decided to replace our Ikonboard (which has done an excellent job) with Invision Power Board or IPB. Where as Ikonboard was written in Perl, PHP is preferable for speed, functionality, security and low server overheads. The latest version of Invisonboard has been installed again hosted at MDUK and work will commence on customising its appearence and facilities. It is my intention to retain all aspects of the current TIWWA including Forums, Categories etc. All existing TIWWA posts and topics will be transferred to the new version of TIWWA including Memberships. Rest assured that nothing will be lost. Many of the facilities will be instantly recognisable such as PM's, Notepads etc. Other facilties remain to be discovered! Increased compatibilty with AOL, other browsers etc are also improvements. The Invision Board has a very clean, polished feel to it and will serve us well. So for the next year of TIWWA some improvements and changes which I'm sure Members will appreciate. By the way, at last it will be possible and easy to rename your Membership account if you want to change your user name! How Ikonboard missed that one I'll never know! I'm extremely excited about this new development and I will post news about it here for you to keep track if you wish of our progress. Meanwhile, as TIWWA approaches its first Anniversary, I would like to entend my sincere gratitude to all Members, Guests and Elders for your support over the past year.
