Wondering why the first scene image on this page is smaller than the others?
The first image shown is from Season One of Millennium which was not filmed in widescreen, unlike seasons Two and Three.
Season One of Millennium was filmed for eventual television broadcast in 133.1 Aspect Ratio aka Full Frame 4:3, whereas Seasons Two and Three, most likey due to the increasing consumer shift to widescreen televisions towards the end of the 20th century, were shot in 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio also known as Full Frame 16:9.
Confused about aspect ratios? Calculating the ratios may help:
Traditional 4:3 'square-shaped' TV Screens:
4:3 = 1:0.75 = 1.3333333333333333:1
Widescreen 16:9 'rectangular-shaped' TV Screens:
16:9 = 1:0.5625 = 1.7777777777777777:1
The resulting numbers are rounded to a shorter 1.33:1 and 1.78 respectively.
