Yaponchik (Sergei Stepanovich): The supposed Russian Antichrist, Yaponchik was responsible for the accident at Chernobyl (incidentally, Chernobyl is the Russian word for Wormwood, the name of a star that, according to the Book of Revelations, would fall to the Earth and poison a third of its waters) and later began to fuel the beliefs of his existence by slaughtering the faithful, among them a woman who restored and sent religious icons as offerings.
Frank discovered a package in her attic addressed to Sergei Stepanovich at the Russian Embassy. Peter Watts accompanied Frank to question Stepanovich, in reality Yaponchik, but knew they could not charge him with murder because he was protected by diplomatic immunity.
